I Made Another Gold CAC Bust Half Dollar

EDLEDL Posts: 113 ✭✭✭✭

The day before the FUN show I received the news that another one of my bust half dollars would be coming back from CAC sporting its new and improved CAC gold sticker!

Before:

After:

I cannot be happier ! Gold CACs on bust halves are so incredibly rare and a tough feat to achieve. This one makes #10 in my collection and I plan to add as many as possible !

Thanks for viewing !

Quick question. It had a green bean, and now has a gold bean. The coin didn't change, so what changed?

Old holder, conservative grading. What was that maybe a $150 coin when it was graded? Something to keep in mind with all the upgrades, back then coins were often trading at a fraction of current pricing so it was more an academic exercise than a strong market, right?

I have the same question. I thought once it had a sticker, that was it... Same with once it did not receive a sticker it would not be considered again... that they kept a database of cert numbers?

I believe I have read here that you can send a green stickered CAC back to them for re-consideration

It's all about what the people want...

You can resubmit any coin to CAC that has already gone through the evaluation process. When I was still an active, full-time dealer one of the features I offered was to go through coins for folks and see which pieces might benefit from a second trip to CAC. If I recall correctly, I was never able to have a coin that failed CAC evaluation the first time subsequently receive a CAC sticker, but I was able to get a small number of green stickered coins upgraded to gold stickers. My process was to simply know as much as I could about the issue, the color and strike, the specific die characteristics and wear patterns of any coin that I brought back to CAC and to succinctly highlight why I thought the coin needed to be analyzed again. I never argued if CAC disagreed.

Im not trying to hijack this thread as the OP made out very well and im happy for him.
I have a morgan (already started a thread about it) that I really think should have a gold sticker.
This tells me there is hope.

TomB's point is spot on. If you are going to question any expert it helps to provide an argument as to why their opinion is being questioned. In this case, their original opinion was not wrong; the coin is premium. But it is actually better than premium, it is exceptional for the following reasons.

Never tell an expert that they are wrong. It won't work out well. Including the "experts" on this board LOL.
