    And silver takes years off....going up less than inflation and even declining.

    It's not even debatable that the CPI has been changed and manipulated for decades now. It's no more valid than using hemlines as a stock market prediction.

    It's the official CPI for urban consumers. If you want to use the GDP deflator, be my guest. But they are the gold standards (no pun intended) to meausure inflation.

    Hedonics and housing are hotly debated but there is no "manipulation" in the construction of the indices. Transparency and integrity are paramount at BEA, Commerce, and BLS.
