I bought a burger & drink today at the local Burger King. The total was $9.73. I paid with a $10 and got a 1943-D quarter & 2011-D nickel in change. I never look at my change, but I could hear the difference. Pretty cool, says I. There’s still a few out there, even at these crazy silver prices.

that is super cool. I haven't got a silver quarter back since the early 90s. As a coin nerd I have to say I am a little disappointed you did not share a Rev pick so we can see if there is a mint mark. Inquiring minds want to know (for no good reason)

Ha, it’s a Denver
… and I checked. It’s not the DDO.
I love it when that happens 🫰👍
Thank you kind sir, my brain can move on now.
I get 2-3 war nickels a year maybe 1 dime every other and find 40% halfs when I see any group of halfs but quarters have been my most searched and least producing denom since I was a teen working in an arcade at the beach. Looking though over a million quarters I may have gotten 2 over 3 years. I was convinced there was someone upstream taking them out before distribution. Mind you it was a quarters centric place being a beach with old school meters and a board walk lined with arcades

Very hard to believe, a bunch of people were asleep at the economic wheel.
Today's burger employees tend to be young enough to not even know we had silver coinage.

Cool story..Thanks for sharing!
Can’t remember the last time I received any constitutional silver in change. It’s been many years.

Very cool! It's been years since I got any silver in change. Nice pickup.

I got a ‘64 silver dime in change from my favorite breakfast nook about two months ago. 😬
I got a 44 mercury dime and the girl had no idea what it was. I was glad to say nothing and walked away
A free lunch!
Obviously, I should have asked if she could give me $5 worth of quarters.
You never know......
It might have been fun to give her a $2.00 tip since lunch was free and the tip would have been too.
They also rounded down your charge to $9.70. So you made out there as well. Even if the difference would not have bought you dessert.😀
A few years ago before the local toll road when to EZPass only I was trying to pay my 8 quarters at the unmanned both…….my quarters kept going straight through the machine and straight down into the change slot. I put in more than the cost of the toll and nothing was happening, so I opened my door to scoop out what I assumed were all the quarters I had just tried to pay with. Toll malfunctions weren’t that uncommon at this particular plaza……
Got maybe a half mile down the road before realizing one of them was silver, then I got to where I was going and went through what I had scooped out and counted an additional 4 of them!
Silver wasn’t any where near where it is now but that was one morning I wasn’t pissed off about DC traffic!
I assume you're talking about the dullas toll road, it would take more than silver to make that not a nightmare

@Crypto Ha yes of course I am talking about that highway to hell. Couldn’t agree with you more. Thankfully it’s no longer a part of my commute.
Right?! I guess Milton Friedman was wrong, after all!! lol 😂

I'd fly into BWI to avoid the Dulles toll road to the airport... eeek!

Funny you mention that. A few months ago I went through the drive-thru but didn't realize I'd forgotten my wallet until I was at the window. Well, that's embarrassing. The high school kid at the register paid for my lunch. Wow! I asked his name and came back later that day. I dropped off a little something to reimburse him and leave a kingly tip in addition. Rewarding good with good is a blast. Stuff like that is one of the best parts of living where I do.
This time, the particular gal at the register would have been so confused by a tip that it would have caused all sorts of chaos.
And yes, it appears my local Burger King has given up on using cents.
