CHURROS - PHOTOS AND TRIVIA AS PROMPTED BY TODAY'S CHURRO ENCOUNTER
From Past Travels - Churros in Sweden:
From the Past Travels - Churros with a thick hot chocolate for dipping as photographed in Malaga Spain near Andalusa:
From Today - Mochi Churros in Honolulu:
Churros are fried until they become crunchy, and may be sprinkled with sugar. The surface of a churro is ridged due to having been piped from a churrera, a syringe-like tool with a star-shaped nozzle. Churros are generally prisms in shape, and may be straight, curled or spirally twisted.
The origin of churros is unclear. But according to food historian Michael Krondl, "today's churro is not that different from a recipe for a flour and water fritter that you find in Apicius, a Roman cookbook dating from the 1st century AD. And there are recipes from the Ancient Greeks, but it's probably even older than that. In the Mediterranean basin it's basically been around forever"
In Spain, churros can either be thin (and sometimes knotted) or long and thick, where they are known as porras, jeringos, or tejeringos[1][2] in some regions. They are normally eaten for breakfast dipped in coffee, or in hot chocolate for an afternoon snack.
In Seville (Andalusia), the name "calientes" (meaning hot) or "calentitos de rueda" is sometimes used instead of the word churro. These tend to refer to the thicker variant, called porra. Calientes are usually fried in the shape of a continuous spiral and cut into portions afterwards. The center of the spiral is thicker and softer, and for many a delicacy in itself. The standard "churro" is also sold under the name "calentitos de papas", the name referring to the softer mashed potato-like texture, (Excerpts from Wikipedia)

Bought a brand new Model 94 Winchester in 64. Had a special top eject scope mtd at dealer and they didn't tighten mtg bracket. I wore the circular badge of shame for some time. Still have the 94 with scope. > @JWP said:

Purchased a model 94 winchester in 1964 and had a top ejector scope mount fitted with scope by seller, who did not tighten scope mount very tight and I got to wear the badge of shame for quite a while. Still have the rifle, but eye has healed. Lol

Hail the gift of memory in this fifty-second state. Who sold me down the river and shafts me while he waits. Outside the gates of Eden, star spangled and so late.
Unlike the similarly sized Pacific Golden Plover, known as Kolea in Hawaii, which migrates 2,000 miles from Alaska to Hawaii in 35 hours, Zebra Doves are non migratory. Introduced to Hawaii from Southeast Asia in 1922, they thrive in Hawaii where their soft cooing competes with the rustling of the Trade Winds.
Painting of the neighboring Molili Fishpond which I acquired from the artist Dennis Morton after observing him painting it on a prior visit to the Macadamia Nut Farm:

Ouch. I still have a faint scope scar from when I pulled the trigger on a caribou I had sighted. It was well below zero so the blood froze in place. Gutting the animal afterwords was the first time my hands got warm.
In both the above pictured Hawaiian Pink Ginger and Bougainvillea Flowers, the colorful portions are actually modified leaves known as bracts. The white centers are the actual flowers.
If you focus on the dot in the middle and move your head forward, the outer circle appears to rotate clockwise — move your head back and the motion changes.

A lady in our local coin club walked in with a shiner. I asked her, "What happened?". She was shooting wild pigs from her porch. True story.
