I have in my collection a number of silver US coins (99.99%, 90%, 40%, 35%) that I have accumulated since 1963 when I started collecting. Some of the coins are in albums, flips, coin tubes and rolls. Some are loose. I do not know how many silver coins I have, but yesterday I started going through my collection and counting how many of each silver coin I have.

Has anyone else done the same?

    Kind of. I did do a quick check of my half-dollar sets. I have 2 1/2 Walking Liberty sets (circulated), 2 Franklin, and 1 barber (circulated). May be time to pull the keys and dump the rest.

    Probably should have held on a little longer but I sold pretty much everything when silver went above $50/oz. I just did a little inventory and the only rolls I have left are 3 bank rolls of Jefferson Nickels from the early 60's from my brothers' collection. I have a few odd pieces of 90% that range from 19th C Type... a Seated half dime, a couple of Dimes, Quarters and Halves... a few Halves from the "Tooth Fairy" (a Walker and a Franklin, few Kennedys)... and 7 Morgan Dollars ,mostly toned AUs and a '91CC... and a partial set of Mercury Dimes (~20) in a plastic dime holder...

    I'm on the sidelines just looking in as far as bullion is concerned... I'm also very happy with the sale and the coin I got to replace that small stack of 90% Ag... :smiley:

    I have done exactly that, inventory. I wouldn't mind selling some silver now but I held it through the Hunt brothers fiasco. I kind of think we are a ways from the top though. I'll probably hang on.

    Yes. Did a quick accounting of some circulated silver nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and an accumulation of foreign silver from .100 to .920%. Man I have a lot and that’s not taking into account all the uncirculated set in Whitman and Dansco albums and all the extras in uncirculated in 3 ring binders. Also at least a few hundred ASE in uncirculated, burnished and proof. Quite a large quantity of 90% Commems from 1986-2024. Oh and the silver .999 Presidential series and .999 5-ounce NP coins and Apollo coins. Too much to even wrap my head around. There’s much more that I’m sure I’ve forgotten about too.

    Same. It's made me revisit some of my lower grade coins and sell them. Only ones I was hanging onto with little interest since my tastes have changed.

    Are you planning on keeping everything, keeping on buying, or is there a point where you would consider selling? Just curious...

    So right now, I’m not planning on buying any new silver and have no immediate plans to sell. Not purchasing anything new from the Mint as their prices have skyrocketed and will likely increase and I have not purchased much from them in the past 4 years. My collecting strategy has changed as I now and for the past 4 years only collect better date PCGS certified coins (keys and semi-keys) and those with lower populations. If silver ever gets to that magical number of perhaps $100. an ounce, I could start to be persuaded. Zack.

    All my graded material is inventoried individually. Raw (junk box shows) is mainly inventoried in bulk; however prices are adjusted as needed in keeping up with the bull market. Very little raw silver. These are in 2x2 priced accordingly.

    In this bull market players are adjusting prices up as needed. Spot is monitored and of course as it goes up players may make adjustments in price in accordance with the bull market.

    But not just coins, also my sterling flatware set, which got excessively carried away during the 1990s when bullion prices were back to $5-$6 and forks & spoons just seemed too cheap. Three hundred and seventy-two pieces makes me a silver stacker in that category now! :D

    I just sold 5 ATB 5oz hockey pucks Friday at 95% of melt to a local shop. Paid more than major online sites would, no shipping cost, and immediate cash payment.

    I have some PCGS graded MS or PR68 ASE's that are to be sold.

    I even just pulled a few AG/Cull barber half dollar to sell for melt.

    Kevin, I started doing what you’re doing back in early December after Silver was past $50. Most of what I had was singles, 10/25/50 Proofs in incomplete sets, some BU’s including a partial set of Franklins and some 90% and Sterling medals. I sold last week at 50x and my net was over 2k.

    Here’s my reasoning. Mostly this was stuff with a value which was cratered. Selling to a collector would be difficult and time consuming, spread out over a long time. Selling to a dealer would put me 10-20% back of sheet. Sending to be graded and then selling to a collector/dealer or at auction would be stupid and probably lose money.

    Most of my stuff and most of what you are considering has had the Numismatic value passed by the Bullion value. The only logical reason to keep it now is to wait for a rise in Spot to sell at a higher level. If/when Silver falls back to sane historical levels and you have held this stuff the Numismatic value will be at a negative for you.

    My suggestion: cut whatever emotional ties you have and take the profit. If you don’t you’ll regret it.
