There's no better eBay buyer than a hypocritical seller

Oh how I love eBay! Bidder snipes an auction, and 7 minutes later sends a message and requests the sale be canceled because "I just noticed the rim dings on this coin. Not indicated on the listing. Would you please cancel this sale?"

Yes, the rim dings weren't indicated in the listing. The rim dings easily seen in the large photos:

For the record, the listing title is "1830 CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLAR XF DETAILS" and the written description "A piece with nice details. It has been polished."

Now, because it's eBay, I don't really have any option but to acquiesce, but look! The buyer has items for sale... where no descriptions are provided.

Like this graffitied bust half:

Or this Barber, whose only issue is being polished:

Alas, so many replies written in my head, and most likely none I can send. The bourbon's coming out tonight...

Refund? It's not like he paid in those 7 minutes... :|

Contact the buyer and request a 10% restocking fee because he screwed U on a legit sale.

Can we assume you blocked him from bidding on your future sales?

Just ignore him and let the software leave an unpaid item strike.

You have to be ready for a lot of potential problems on ebay especially if you're doing the sort of volume you're running: https://www.ebay.com/str/jkcoinphotographyconsignments

Just refund that buyer and move on. At least you don’t have to fish it out of inventory and package it. Be sure block him.

The joy of eBay! At least he screwed you quickly (rather than the return-refund hassle).

That doesn’t quite work here. If he made the request a few days in, I could deny it and then cancel as unpaid. But if I deny it now, he could always just pay for it and then stick a return on me as SNAD, and now I’m out money and a few weeks. Plus, he can always leave feedback… which is the reason I’m not sending any snarky emails. Yet.

Yes, and I’ve dealt with plenty of terrible buyers in the past. I’ve had buyers notice something after the sale, but to do so, accuse me multiple times of not describing the coin properly, and then have many examples where he does the same… that’s new for me.

That would be a safe assumption.

So the level of polishing on the 1830 CBH WASN'T his concern?! He's looking for an excuse... perhaps he won other auctions the same night and was looking for an ebay seller to let him "pick and choose" the spoils.... so to speak.

can they leave feedback on a cancelled transaction?

Unfortunately. The only time they can’t leave feedback is if the transaction is canceled due to nonpayment.
