Dang. I've been attending the Boeing show for many years.
As I mentioned in another thread, one of my local shops just shuttered as a result of the new tax law. The Metals Shop is no more. Sad situation. This could be the first of many.

Sad situations man. Hope this doesn't cause a major decrease in the amount of shows/people collecting.

Thx for the "heads up." That is unfortunate: I was looking forward to the Boeing show and have no desire to go to Portland.

I'm guessing more Washington State coin collectors will be buying their coins from out of state coin dealers. The BST is also a good option.

Gonna kill Tukwila. The good news is that the last Portland show at the Hayden Island Holiday Inn was an excellent location. Should be drivable for Washington folks. (I suspect at least some WA State dealers might need to relocate to OR anyway.) Anyway, if the PNNA can secure that room for future shows, I think it could do well.

How does a new sales tax affect dealers buying.
Washington does have a b&o tax which you pay regardless of any profits
Yesterday I decided not to buy two small coins on eBay because of sales tax - multiply that decision by 100,000x in any given year
I think the B&O rate for coin and bullion dealers is either going up or some exemptions going away in addition to starting to charge sales tax. But yes, this definitely changes my (and I'm sure many others) buying strategies.

@Cuprinkor, aside from a minimum 3-1/2 hour drive? Nothing…the venue for the WCC show in November was outstanding. The commute however will discourage some collectors and dealers from attending.

Correction, parts of Washington are deep blue parts of Washington are deep, red same with Oregon.
I didn't follow closely the lead up to this legislation but I'm left to wonder if the fact that COSTCO began selling bullion gave the lawmakers big eyes.
I know, for me, as much as I enjoy going to Portland and as much fun as I've had in the past at a couple of coin club shows there I'll be one of the many Washingtonians who won't see a 5-6-6 plus hour round trip being in the cards.

Major voting areas are blue. Seattle, Olympia, Tacoma. By land area, it is more red (but that doesn't count)

And some of the highest property taxes, and sales taxes, in the country. Trust me, it is MORE than made up for.
Gas prices are in the top 3 in the country as well.

Visited portland more than a few times for my kid's basketball tournaments. So done with portland and the issues there as well.

It's a shame. Tukwilla or Kent are my limits as the shows are relatively small and purchases are rare. Pdx is definitely too far for me.
FUN and ANA shows are still in the cards for me.
We have some property in Oregon, so worth the trip. Two birds.
And PNNA dropped the show down to just two days this year, not sure how much that will affect buyers and sellers.
I wonder if having a show on tribal land would negate the sales tax.

I'm not a dealer, so I cant speak with 100% certainty, but I think the Baltimore Whitman Coin Expo and the Convention Center got to some sort of a tax exemption agreement?
FWIW... I pay sales taxes (MD) when I buy on ebay... it hasn't really impacted my buying all that much.

The news said those specializing in precious metals are thinking whether to close up or move to Idaho or Oregon. They feel an additional 10% tax will severely limit their sales. It is probably too early to tell.
