eBay Scam Alert

I had an issue come up on eBay that I wanted to share, so no one else would get scammed from the same buyer.
I Sold this set of three Disney silver rounds to this account: https://www.ebay.com/usr/starrynightdream2000
user: starrynightdream2000
They requested to return it, so I started the return and sent the label.
When they finally shipped the "item" back, they didn’t ship the three Disney rounds, but instead sent an old junk doorknob in the box.
I wanted to get the word on this scammer, please add it to your block list.

It's too bad eBay doesn't offer a way to alert members of buyers who attempt to pull off scams like this.
They could call it "feedback".
Thanks for the heads up. Let us know if eBay sides with you or the buyer.

Thats a huge bummer.
So what can you do now?

Thank you, sorry that you had to take that hit.
Have you contacted eBay? Anytime this happened to me, eBay always credited me the amount.
My eBay account is tied to a credit card. If eBay doesn't help, my credit card company has no problem doing a chargeback.

If you go to order details of the item sold, it will show the buyers name, address, phone number.

Why not call or text the number listed and leave a message that you will be contacting their local sheriff department for online fraud if they don't send items back.
thanks
and for you:
there was a thread recently where they shipped it "back" and the ebay generated return label was altered to go to a different address. it showed the return delivered
Thanks added them to the block list.
Your unacceptable & very sad experience is why I stopped doing ebay sales a couple decades ago. Ever since I lost the ability to accurately reward negs to bad customers and I stood on a level playing field.
Gone downhill since...
I am 99%plus ok or better buying, but, got bit again recently, no way I will ever sell on fleabay again.
Tell it to the AI.....................................
Hope it turns out ok for you !!!
He's the seller not the buyer.

I wonder if this was a mistake on the buyer's part. That account has been around for almost 13 years. Perfect feedback. Have you contacted the buyer about this?
Dave
but only 111 feedback with 108 in the last 12 months - the no negatives to buyers era
look at feedback left to others
I suggest you delete the name of the buyer until this is investigated further. It is quite possible that the buyer isn't the one who put the doorknob in there. There have been cases of postal theft where they put junk in the box. So you may be libeling a perfectly good buyer.

UNREAL !!
It's been 17 years since it was possible for an eBay buyer to have less than perfect feedback.
I would say protect yourself from risk
I'm a buyer who 3 weeks ago paid $1029 for a slabbed gold coin. I was sent a package that contained an empty dollar general energy drink box, 2 modern Canadian quarters and 2 modern Canadian nickels. I paid over $1k for .60 cents Canadian. The kicker(s) are: seller has since ripped off 2 other buyers, one for $4500 and the 2nd for $4200....their account at this moment is still active. I have been fighting ebays stupid AI customer service for several weeks in an attempt to recover my funds. Momma and I recorded opening of original package, I was on Fedex security cameras placing items back in package and returning to seller with ebays provided return label. They received and signed for their .60 cents Canadian. Still not resolved. Once this is finalized, ALL of my ebay accounts will be closed and I will never buy or sell on that platform again. THKS!

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
I'm not sure what that has to do with my point. The OP can't issue a chargeback as the seller.
We'll miss you. I love ebay.

Nothing at all to do with your point. I was simply trying to say it's not only the sellers who get scammed. It goes both ways and ebays claims of buyer protection in my current case is a complete joke. I was a power seller for well over a decade. They won't get another cent from me, and I certainly won't miss them either. I hope it remains lucrative for you and I wish you much luck. RGDS!

Ebay will side with the buyer. This happened to me years ago.
Your only recourse is to block the buyer from your account.
I was upset but I didn't stop selling on Ebay. It's the cost of doing business. Unfortunately there are unethical people in this world!
I know someone who was in a similar situation.
They did the return and he received a potato instead of the item.
Ebay should step up in a situation like this.

After using eBay since 2001, II have all but given up on the venue. As a seller, I’m finding more and more “non received “ cases opened than the previous quarter century combined. Just last month cost me over $$1200 in coinage( majority was silver). The tracking system fails …. eBay customer service is non existent. The post office looks the other way and I’m out that money, the coins, the shipping and the eBay selling fees.
I have a store there, and it’s empty….for now. I have a block list a block long.

Spoken like a buyer. The OP is a seller being screwed by a different set of circumstances. Yours is a tactic which has also screwed many a seller, with me being one… for thousands of dollars in gold.

Next I can see ebay offering (or maybe requiring, for larger transactions) a service where everything goes through them so they can verify the contents both for sales and returns.
I think they already do something like that for expensive trading cards, and they also have a central facility for international transactions that use the Global Shipping Program.
Or, ebay could authorize private operations to run a similar operation, acting as an escrow agent.

I've never screwed a seller and I would only do a chargeback if the seller sent me box with a rock inside instead of the coin I ordered from him.

Only took 26 days and about 500 phone calls. Technically still not refunded but only 3-5 more days. Buh-Bye eBay. Closing accounts today. RGDS!

I've been very lucky over the years.
I would definitely be very leary buying any bullion on ebay and any raw lots of silver dollars.
Too many fakes out there.
Deleted.
I certainly have a few ideas….lol! None of them should be written in text tho and certainly not in a public forum. Use your wildest imagination. 👍
Chance favors the prepared mind.
Post Office needs to start using metal detectors at package receiving stations. Postal employee has to pass metal detector screen on entering and exiting. Plus put up some sign there for employees to read that say no knives, box cutters, scissors and the like allowed in "this" room.

Lol. And you think the mail spend all is time in one room? It doesn't even spend all its time with postal employees.

Stories like this are one of the reasons I started a new marketplace just for coins. Other than good customer support and fair fraud resolutions, what would you all be looking for? I added optional ID verification. What about escrow for high value items? Any other ideas to avoid these situations?

What does RGDS stand for? I haven't found it anywhere
From Google search of "RGDS!"
RGDS = Real Guys Desire Silver
Or something like that....
😆
I haven’t heard this stunt occurring for many years. It was bound that someone would get the criminal idea again.
Who are you, what is your new coin marketplace, and why should anyone trust you? No offense, but I don't click on random links, your username doesn't instill confidence, and this could be considered SPAM.
