1865 Seated Liberty Half Dollar Pocket Piece
Allot of coin collectors have their lucky coin/pocket piece. Lets see some of them and why they were chosen.
Mine is a 1865 Seated Liberty Half Dollar. About 10 years ago when I started collecting I didn't want to carry a 1965 Kennedy half dollar my birth year. So I chose the 1865 Seated Liberty because it is 100 years older than me and at the time mine was xtra fine plus. Now not so much. Every morning whether going to work or on the weekends the first things in my pockets are my wallet and my pocket piece. Been carrying it for 10 years, and it must be lucky because I haven't lost it. But it is looking a little worn.

Carried as a pocket piece by both my father and after he passed, I have carried it daily for 46 years, for a combined total of 81 years.

@Franklin_Fan . You had me a little concerned there for a minute but then I saw the "s". A Philly is far rarer and deserves respect accordingly. james
I forgot to add that my pocket piece is a silver colored tribute piece the Liberty Seated Collectors Club gave to me a couple years back. Were it not for my eye rolling, can't believe I forgot it again in a pocket wife; it would have been gone long, long ago. James
jfriedm56, congratulations on being able to carry the pocket piece that your father carried. Awesome story. Steve
@Franklin_Fan, thanks Steve. I remember my dad telling me he received that Morgan in the mid to late 30’s and started carrying it after he was discharged from the service at the end of WW2 as a good luck piece. Zack.
Has PCGS ever certified a pocket piece that was recently carried with a straight grade, meaning not cleaned?
I would think so, but my piece has never been cleaned and after 10 years it is getting kind of worn so I don't think it would be worth grading. If I had it graded I couldn't carry it anymore. I will carry mine no matter what it looks like until I'm gone or it is gone.
Thanks, Steve
I had a copper Bashlow CSA cent going for about a year… but I accidentally spent it. Had a nice look started….
