    I forgot to include the obverse:

    The thing I remember about this coin was how few coins they had in general and how few were in new condition. India in 1998 was pretty poor. And there were lots of opportunities to give away spare change, which was pretty much worthless. Maybe things have changed by now.

    When I was last in India (1995), there were carts on the street selling old coins. I remember buying a bunch, but many were aluminum and in horrible condition. I probably still have them somewhere if anyone wants them (and I can find them).

    I think this one is steel. I heard that people used magnets on a long fishing line to pull the coins out of the Ganges near Varanasi Apparently pilgrims throw them out of the train windows into the river for good luck. Then the fishermen fish them out for a living.
