1987 Topps Baseball was my catalyst. Though I took no interest in owning the cards, a moment in time changed me forever. I was at a Dodger game with my wife and found an ad in the Gameday program advertising an '87 Topps set for purchase, something like $14.99 plus shipping. I declined to purchase that specific item, but it caused me to look deeper in the card craze that seemed to be building up. Within a few weeks, I was responding to local ads in the newspaper and purchasing card collections from local people, then reselling the good ones at card shops. It took off from there. Thanks '87 Topps. You were an inspiration.

First box had a few of the ones I was chasing with gum or wax so I opened two.
I have cracked this. I decided to take a look at the front and back cards. The wax card looks like Cecil Upshaw and the gum card looks like Mays In Action. That one is tricky to be sure as the gum is blocking the whole right side.
I decided to open a box of 80 Topps instead
You should get Steve at BBCE to look at that 1972 pack then, if it has the Mays IA card. If he can see it, he can send it to PSA for wrapping with that designated on the flip. That will immensely increase the value of the pack.
Good luck!

@bgr Good call on keeping the 72 pack sealed. Jabs opened a full box of these and it was a disaster. Most of the cards were stained by the gum leaking thru the cards.

Of course that’s from a vending box I opened recently. Because this box was BBCE certified repacked trash.
What was the general condition of the cards in the wastebasket? I would struggle to throw the worst of 1980 Topps baseball in the trash. As evidenced by my hoard.
I could leave Craig Reynolds in there cause he is high POP and the centering looks a little off. But that O's card I want to extract. I can see the image in my mind but not sure who it is. Think I submitted and got a 9.

Please excuse my ignorance as I'm a novice with unopened product. Are you saying the box was tampered with and then certified by BBCE?
There were 3 packs which had a 1979 topps card in place of the Henderson.
The feeling you get when you see that Larry Hisle…. It’s still incredible.
Some packs seem like they were glued sealed.
Some packs had multiple gum cards.
This was not a FASC box so it was a coin flip. I post this so people know what can happen. They’re not all gold. It’s a bit of a bummer because this is the only 80T box I grabbed and I won’t be able to get more until May.

The cards were Ok. Most were wrecked in some way though. The sides where they are grabbed for packaging if you know what I refer to.
I was a bit irritated that I got BBCE’d again and there weren’t any worth keeping. Next time I will ask if anyone wants them before I toss them.
Do you have a picture of the back certification label? I have noticed some fake BBCE boxes being sold on eBay and am wondering if this was a reconstructed box from a fraudster.

A smart person would have. It's in the garbage and I'm going to psych myself up to go get it. I had been on such a roll lately that I forgot lemons existed!
That label appears to have all the correct elements. The fake ones I primarily see are the old labels with the wrong hand writing on the box. It is harder to fake the hologram labels, but still can happen. Guessing if you reach out to Steve he will make it right. He is as honest as they come in this hobby.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully they do make it right. A friend and I grabbed an 80 Vending Box from BBCE at the National many years ago when they were about 10% of the price they are now and the colors were faded and they looked water-damaged. We showed it to Steve and he gave us another box.

You win some and you lose most. I'm glad to hear most people have good customer service experiences with Steve. I stopped bothering years ago after collecting so many "unicorn boxes" as he puts it.

I love a nice 80T Rickey.

Bummer man.
I get genuinely sad seeing cards in the garbage can.
I kept a few of the 79s. Just to show Steve.
That stinks.

That Rickey looks sharp, fisheye and all!
Merry Christmas and I’m sure Steve will square the account.

I opened a box of 84T which was uninspiring. Plenty for auto but not many for grading.
Hope everyone had a nice Christmas.
Today’s rip with my boys.

The cards were fine. If anyone wants them just PM me where to ship them and I’ll put them in a card box and drop them at usps.
