Coin Designs for 2027 and Beyond

I just got a Christmas 2025 mailer from the U.S. Mint. Nothing too unexpected, but what caught my eye was an asterisk by the 2025 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set saying "There are currently no further releases scheduled for this product beyond 2025 as we create new numismatic products to enhance your collection." The 2025 Silver Limited Edition set contains the silver Roosevelt dime, five Washington quarters with the five American Women Quarters (AWQ) (which I've heard will be the last of that series), the Kennedy half, and the American Silver Eagle.

The 1776-2026 designs are pretty well-publicized at this point. But what about 2027?

I wonder, could this mean that the Roosevelt dime and Kennedy half could be discontinued? Anyone know anything about 2027 designs (and let's hopefully leave the whole Trump discussion out)?

    The Roosevelt and Kennedy's will continue on in 2027, and will at the very least be included in the regular Proof & Silver Proof Sets. Same with the Lincoln 1C.

    One thing of note: The Kennedy reverse as we know it will no longer be used.

    2025 was the last year for the current reverse of the Kennedy half. They are "Hot" in PR70 AR & FDI currently.
    Beginning in '27, the Kennedy half will start using different "Paralympic themes" on the reverse for a few years(off the top of my head)....

    Not being one to keep up with the Mint's flurry of annual design changes, I have to ask if Roosevelt and Kennedy will continue because the law regarding the 250th coins explicitly states that FDR and JFK will appear on those coins forever or that it's implied because the law states the new designs are just for one year.

    If they keep Lincoln cent coins in either the mint or proof sets or both, I hope that they return to 95% copper and leave the plating blisters behind. It's not like they cannot charge for the copper the way they do silver.

    From the CRS Summary:

    (Sec. 4) Beginning January 1, 2027, Treasury shall issue quarter dollars that have designs on the reverse that are emblematic of sports played by American youth. Up to five different sports designs shall be issued each year. Beginning January 1, 2027, Treasury shall issue half dollars that have designs on the reverse that are emblematic of a sport tailored to athletes with a range of disabilities, including physical impairment, vision impairment and intellectual impairment (i.e., a Paralympic sport).

    The remainder of the existing legislation still applies as you can see from the actual legislative text:

    Seems in conflict with the law allowing the Treasury Department to have designs changed without Congressional approval if they've been around for at least 25 years.

    I think this has to do with the fate of the San Francisco mint. Notice how there are no S mint products on the lineup for 2026 yet?

    I think that was intentional, to make it clear the 2026 changes do NOT reset the 25-year clock.

    It is interesting there is actually no requirement for the semiquincentennial coin program, the wording Congress uses is "the Secretary may change the design...". If Congress had wanted it as a requirement, it would have been worded "shall change the design..." I never really looked before, is all coinage legislation worded this way, as a 'request' for the Treasury secretary?

    Seems about 50-50... some pieces of leg are SHALL, many are MAY or other discretionary wording.

    For example, the Secretary of the Treasury shall determine the quantity to mint. Zero is a quantity...
