Should Torree be in the HOF as a player AND as a manager?

Do the same for Torre vs Ted Simmons and Torre also leads. Simmons played more catcher but that was offset by Torre having a larger offensive advantage.
Honestly yea put him in. Mauer being in opened the flood gates and the HOF has just turned into voting for prom king and queen voting the last few years anyways

I am a Mauer fan. I think he’s underrated.
He has the credentials. Some more so than most. MVP, 3 batting titles. GG catcher - played about half his career at the position.
He’s quite similar to Posey and sits above Molina. At or near the top of his generation. I don’t think Mauer stands out in the HOF. Even Baines isn’t really the worst offense. The idea that the hall is slipping because every new guy pales in comparison to the greats is missing the point.
The problem with Mauer is he played the majority of his career at 1st and DH. He gets often looked at as a catcher but hes not. He had that one elite year and a couple good years early as a catcher for sure, but he was really bad as a DH first basemen
Mussina I have a big problem with especially with Schilling out and I wont even get into the whole Clemens Bonds thing. Its just lost all relevancy to me at this point for modern players

I don't think you can get inducted into the HOF twice, so Torre will have to make do with his manager election. But yes, he was definitely screwed when he didn't get in as a player. That was true in the 1980's when he was on the ballot, and it just became more true when Mauer and Simmons got in (not that they didn't deserve it, but shame on the cretins who thought that they did but Torre didn't). Torre was hurt by the same thing that hurt Allen and Santo and others; he had his best years in the second deadball era and nobody recognized it as a deadball era for far too long (many still don't get it).
