This coin had some residue on it so I poured some acetone into one of those cheap plastic food containers and put the coin in. I let it sit for about an hour and opened it up and this was the result. I don't even know how this could happen? Bad batch of acetone, something in the plastic container? Any ideas?
Here is the before pic. I try to take pics of all the coins I get as soon as I get them.

Acetone and soft plastics never go together. I'm surprised that you didn't have a glob of plastic sitting there and a mess on the counter.
Use a glass container next time.
Now I know. I usually just dab with a Q Tip.
I had a similar before and after while in my safe deposit box.. I was told it was a bad dip that had not been correctly rinsed (and the dealer bought it back).
It later showed up in an auction and then on a less reputable dealer's website as exceptional toning.
It's not a significant coin. Is the discoloration on the coin baked into the surface? What would happen if you dipped it in this stuff? Maybe you could start over.

Often times, PVC residue will tone the surfaces of a coin while in the process of removing it with a solvent. This is especially true when there is a considerable amount of the residue. I don’t see any PVC residue in your before pics, so I don’t think that’s what caused it, but obviously something reacted with the silver when the residue was removed from the coin’s surface.

This one sucks because I liked it white and I haven’t ever tried to dip a coin that was this toned. I don’t think it will look like before
I would not recommend it.
Leave it alone.
If you dip it you might strip whatever luster is left.

You could sell that coin as is and some idiot would pay $500 for it for the toning.
I honestly thought about posting it on the bay, but if someone sent it in, I’m sure it would details.
My comment was sarcastic, not a recommendation. I hate being burned that way by unscrupulous sellers.
I think in this instance if someone put in the listing artificially toned and someone bought it because they liked the look of it, I don’t see anything wrong with that.
First off, did you use true acetone and not the fingernail polish remover? And as stated, acetone is not good in plastic. I would make sure I have good acetone and resoak it again in a glass container.

Please don’t drag me, lol. But fingernail polish remover. I had saw it in Walmart and it said 100% acetone but when googling I see it’s not the exact same.
I would go to home depot or hardware place and get some true acetone and try again. Also, real acetone is extremely flammable, so be careful using it.
