Maybe there wasn't enough innovation.
That’s one of the problems with collecting these modern Mint series. A collector decides to embark on a new series, diligently adds (overpriced) coins to their set year after year, and then is left holding a partially finished set because the Mint decided to pull the plug.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
The dozens of us that collect the series will be disappointed.
They actually sell about 50k proof sets of this series per year. Not sure why they are keeping the reverse proof sets going and abandoning the proof sets. Weird and frustrating.
Well... that is bologna. Between collecting the series myself and having made a few albums containing the four coins per type, this is an unexpected and unfortunate change.

If you've been buying these all along, try looking at it from the "Glass Half Full" point of view- you now have a complete set and you don't have to worry about the mint introducing a limited mintage issue into the series next year that you can't afford to buy.
I wonder if something is happening to San Francisco and that is the real reason why.
To be fair, that almost never happens. They usually make them even after people stopped buying them. [First Spouses, e.g.]

I too collect the series. Maybe it’s a good thing.
I've said in other threads that it probably makes sense close the SF mint and absorb its output with the new capacity at P and D after ending cent production.

the silver proof set and proof set have not been cancelled
Not cancelled but possibly produced elsewhere?
possibly
i was trying to say that closing the mint won't close proof sets, but those are mandated. nevermind
Either that or they introduced the W mint mark like they did with the quarters, which was unbelievably frustrating as a dansco album collector
What about unc. coins?
The First Spouse series was managed by law.
Probably only 30% of the idiotic decisions "the mint makes" are actually the mint's decisions. The rest come from those bastions of forward progress, the legislative and executive branches.

I'm waiting for the First Spouse Carter coins. Anyone know if they are planned for next year?

This is true. I'm not sure it changes my point. Can you think of another coin series that ended early? I can't.

I'm hoping they are going to incorporate these into a larger proof set for the 250th and then back to the current presentation in 2027.
i think they will be in the proof set
That's an interesting thought.
a product that was 100% ceased before the series end: BU S mint rolls of quarters
Do you mean selling by themselves? Because ATB and Woman quarters were available in PDS 3 roll sets for all issues that I recall.

Yes. Long after most people stopped caring, they were still to be had.

Yeah, something is going on with the San Francisco mint that required curtailing production of routine sets. HVAC system or electrical equipment replacement or something else regarding the facility? Or perhaps going to devote more resources to the 2026 “Last Lincoln” and or “Last Kennedy.”
I think they are trying to close the facility.
