1919 Buffalo with extreme date doubling
Here's an extreme example of mechanical doubling on a 1919 Buff. The coin also has doubling on other areas but the date is extreme. Took some pics tonight and thought I'd share them.

Impressive!
Yes, impressive doubling.
And I agree that it is "strike doubling" and not die doubling (so not really a "doubled die").
Nice!
It looked familiar to me so I looked at my 1919 and sure enough.
It's a rather strong case of strike doubling on both coins. I can see how there could be confusion with a true doubled die.

Interesting! Also, fantastic photography! I wish I were interested in photography enough to learn to take pics like this.

If the doubling is north and south it machine doubling. If east to west it’s a double die. At least that the rule of thumb the way I learned it.
Good to know, thanks 👍
