Thinking of selling my Buffalo Nickel error collection…opinions needed

I’m having a bit of a health issue and Im thinking of selling my Buffalo Nickel error collection. These are more major errors (off center, clips and double struck) All certified by PCGS or NGC. I don’t want my family to worry about them if/when I’m gone. Great collections, eBay, local dealer..,etc. Where would in your opinion be the best place to move them. Not so much a rush, but just getting my ducks in a row. Thanks

    if heritage doesn't have a error auction taking consignments, try great collections

    Sorry for your health issues. Many of us are thinking along the same lines. I have sold over a hundred coins thru Ian at GC and have absolutely no complaints. Best of luck in both regards.

    Best wishes here for starts. I wonder if family wants any for themselves? I'm sure you'll get awesome input here as well 🙂

    I hope you're better soon and this is just an exercise in "what if's"... I've actually done fairly well on the BST for a first pass. Anything that doesn't sell there gets sent to ebay in a 10-day auction with a 99 cent start. Now that I've transitioned into higher quality/certified coins, I'll likely start with Great Collections... hope this helps.

    Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;

    Successful BST transactions with: SilverEagles92; Ahrensdad; Smitty; GregHansen; Lablade; Mercury10c; copperflopper; whatsup; KISHU1; scrapman1077, crispy, canadanz, smallchange, robkool, Mission16, ranshdow, ibzman350, Fallguy, Collectorcoins, SurfinxHI, jwitten, Walkerguy21D, dsessom.

    Major errors might be best consigned to a specialist dealer who will expose them to retail error customers. A local dealer will most likely not be a specialist in errors, will probably eventually wholesale them or run them on eBay themselves, and will thus be unlikely to pay up for them. GC would be my second choice.

    If you can’t find an appropriate specialist then HA or GC.

    Please don’t fool with any local wholesalers. You would be doing yourself a serious injustice.

    Best wishes on your health.

    Hope your health improves and a sale is not necessary but I'd definitely be interested wherever you decide to market them.

    Depending on what exactly you have, an error themed Heritage auction or a banner advertised Great Collections sale would be my best bet.

    This would be my answer as well. If you go with GC, I would make sure all ten coins run together in the same auction. I might be a little worried the group would disappear into a larger Heritage sale, though you would get the benefit of additional eyes and live bidding.

    Heritage offers sales devoted exclusively to error coins, such as the one linked below, which will be held in March.

    an exclusively error auction would be good, but you have to weigh the effect of more eyes vs the different buyers premium

    I am aware of that, my point was that a small, specialized group of Buffalo nickel errors could stand out if offered as a group on GC, rather than being mixed into an auction with a few hundred other error coins on HA. I can certainly see the benefits of either approach.
