Successful Cherrypick - 1954-S 'No JS' FS-901 Roosevelt Dime

ProofCollectionProofCollection Posts: 7,628 ✭✭✭✭✭

So I was scrolling through today's Stacks auction last night where they had several 3-5 coin lots of dimes. I wasn't even aware of this variety but when I saw it in Coinfacts and then did a double take on the auction photos, I noticed this appears to be a top-pop (pop 7/ none higher in FB) example of the No JS 1954-S Dime. Bidding competition was tame - apparently no one else noticed - so I picked up a lot of 5 dimes with this one in it at a very reasonable price. It's nice to get lucky some times.

    Under-graded perhaps.

I think it is. When I have it attributed I will see if they upgrade it. Here is a close-up of the missing JS.

I was curious, I also have this one but there is a slight evidence of the JS. Anyone think this one would qualify? I'm guessing that if any hint of JS remains it won't.

Good luck. I would recommend a variety/re-holder so you keep the grade with FB. It is hard to tell before you have coin in hand.

Joseph Stalin must have been turning in his grave over that breach of the agreement.

"...John R. Sinnock, whose initials "JS" appear below the tip of Roosevelt's bust on the obverse of the coins (this later led to the rumor that "JS" were the initials of the Communist leader of Russia, Joseph Stalin)."

It's official! I sent this in for regrade. This trueview is terrible. I still fail to why this coin is not MS67. The fields and devices are very clean with only a few small nicks.

Nice looking Luster but the strike looks weak and mushy looks like some damage under IGWT as well as streaks on the face.
