I didn't think I would be able to snag this one last Sunday at GC. I was outbid early but ended up on top. This is a Top Pop Gold CAC coin (1 of 4 and none higher).
It had all the things I require. Gold CAC, Old Holder, nice looking coin. I am very happy with this addition to the set.

Why do you require a gold CAC sticker? It doesn't improve the coin. They are awarded as a result of some other TPGs poor grading, not from some special quality the coin possesses.
I've never understood this fascination with gold stickers. But then most will never understand why I would purchase a coin for its rim ding.
I have to conclude collectors are nuts.

What's wrong with rim dings?

Interesting comment @Barberian
I guess I should have gotten your permission to start a set that I am really enjoying. Not sure why you decided to hijack the thread with your coin though.

Here is a quick shot of the eight I have so far with several more coming. The whole set idea came about after a call with John at @CoinRaritiesOnline His coin is the 1941-S MS64FB Gold CAC. Thank you John, for taking time to talk with me about these. I look hope to find a few more on your site some day.

I feel extremely fortunate to have won this absolute GEM last Sunday at GC. It just arrived and it is spectacular in hand.
This 1936-D MS66FB is the Top Pop (1 of 1) Gold CAC coin. With none equal or higher it was a must have for my set. I have other Top Pop Golds but they share that designation with a few other coins.
Gold Sticker, check. Old Holder, check. Great looking coin, check. This is number 7 in the set that I started a month ago. Several more are on the way. I also included a group shot of the set as it stands today.

Incredibly beautiful and quite rare in a true sense. The absolute rarity of the CAC-Gold is the reason why many collect and desire them. Add that to the other bells and whistles, and you come up with something a lot more interesting than your standard issue coinage.
I agree @DRUNNER It is so cool to find one like this.

And I would have granted you permission.
My apologies for offering my thoughts about collecting gold stickers and posting my 1855 half. It was rude and did disrupt the theme of the thread. My point is that we're all collectors and that proclivity can manifest itself in unusual ways. I simply don't understand gold sticker collecting. I don't have to understand it or appreciate it for others to chase after them and enjoy them. To each his own. I recognize I have my own peculiarities as a collector. Good luck landing a lot more gold stickers!
That's an impressive set you've started. Can't wait to watch it grow.
Dave
Thanks @Barberian
@DRUNNER summed it up. They are cool to find and win. I wish I was the only one doing this but I am not.
Earlier in the week I was told my coins are "average, at best". I took your comment the wrong way.

Anytime, Brother!😆
"They are cool to find and win." That's exactly how I felt about cherry picking scarce die marriages. As I mentioned elsewhere that 36-D Mercury is awesome!
I hear you. One former grader went out of his way to register here and post one post to try to humiliate me over inquiring about wiping on a CAC stickered, semi-key coin that looked nice but had abrupt toning changes. One of my coin idiosyncrasies is that I really don't like hairlines or wiping. I also couldn't see the coin well, so that's why I asked if it had been wiped. After the success I've had submitting raw coins to PCGS and CACG for grading, that comment still sticks in my mind.
I should have started my own thread to inquire why people collect gold stickers rather than derail your thread.
Well. Consider this. Have you ever seen any gold stickered coin that wasn’t stunning in eye appeal? Well sure there probably are some out there but not many. But CAC just doesnt seem to award a gold sticker to any ole coin that might grade a grade up at some point in the future. CAC also seems to say ‘look at how amazing the coin is in terms of eye appeal' that IMO goes beyond a straight forward grade bump. This is why I think folks go for the gold. They are mostly drop dead stunning examples.
I’ve seen a few gold stickered gold coins that not only have that top end eye appeal, but are undergraded by at least 3 grades. One example just came up at GC last week - a 1911 strong D QE in 45 Gold CAC/OGH. Not only was it at least a 55+ coin by todays standards, but it was booming in luster and some of the best tone I have ever seen on a 55-58 11-D. Not surprisingly it went for 58 money and should. Alas I was the underbidder and debated for a good hour whether I should bid at MS62 levels. Hence, gold sticker collecting in its essence.
Have another look at the OPs Mercs and notice near perfection in each…………….
Best, DM
Very nice post, @Desert Moon. However, I rarely encounter gold-stickered coins. Most of the graded coins in my collection were purchased as raw coins. I consider CAC green stickered coins though because they are usually very nice coins for the grade.
I certainly expect them to look great. They were highly graded coins to begin with. I looked at them again but cannot really judge their quality with accuracy because I don't collect mercury dimes or MS coins in general. The 36-D is definitely an amazing coin from what I can see.
