All right, coming up next, #5 on your scorecard but #1 in your hearts, George Brett!
I've probably owned several hundred of these cards over the years, and honestly, living in the KC metro, it's like owning a pile of gold. Very liquid. So I would move in and out of inventory very frequently.
While these Bretts are all nice, I do have a tinge of regret that I didn't actually keep the best of the best within their grades. I always had it in the back of my mind that I would someday eventually upgrade to a 9, or possibly even a 10. This was back when 9s were maybe $700 or $800, and 10s were around $4,000 to $5,000 (but usually you could only find those beauties listed with our favorite sellers PWCC and Probstein). Sadly, I never followed through. Perhaps one day...

OK, I know everyone's getting excited with anticipation for the big rookies in the #220s.
I just want to take a quick second before I get to showing my best Robin Yount cards and mention the "puddle".
For those of you that don't know, there was a thread on here maybe 7 or 8 years ago. It was one of the standard "Look at this card! No way it should have gotten a 10! The only reason it got that grade was because of name of the submitter". People were showing a lot of examples of a lot of different cards. I don't recall if it was a PSA 9 or a 10, but someone shared a Robin Yount rookie, and the usual criticism began. Usual stuff. Corners? Centering? Tilt? Registration?
Now, I'd been hoarding 1975s for several years by that time, and had handled a crapload of Yount cards, and looked at even more online. Once you see the puddle, you can't unsee it, so you notice it every time when a card has it. Some have it and some don't, and all I said was, "This one has the puddle right smack dab in the middle, so if anything, it should get a PD." because to me, it looks like a big water puddle in the grass.
I was surprised that no one knew what I meant. I guess people that had a Yount with this particular defect thought it was just a normal part of the photo, perhaps a towel on the grass, or some powder blue Brewers workout gear, etc.
The defect is only on the regular sized card, never the mini. It is a big blue splotch right between Yount's legs. It looks like this, a "puddle".
.
.
I'm not implying that I'm the only one that knew about it anywhere in the world, but it sure seemed like I was the only one in that thread that was aware that this is a PD, and not something found on every Yount. That thread had a wealth of information in it. We had members with printing experience describing exactly what would have caused it, etc. Anyway, as some threads do, it went off the rails and got closed and deleted. I believe a second thread was started specifically about the Yount, and while you may be able to find it in the archives, it was not nearly as informative.
I don't know how common of a print defect it is, but it is not rare. I think I've thrown a lot of different guesses out there, but I really don't know. Maybe 20% have the blue on it, maybe just 10%, maybe 30%? You can likely go on eBay right now and find multiple graded and raw with the defect.
I feel it is common enough and noticeable enough that if you're not going to downgrade it as a PD, then it should be considered a variation. I mean, if the 1982 Topps Tom Seaver All-Star card can have 2 variations of "tied" or "t ed" printed on the back, both which are easily found, then Yount should have a "puddle" and "no puddle".
Anyway, this info was for the casual 1975 collector or Yount fan that didn't know this " puddle variation" existed.
Now, let me snap some pics of Robin...
I was one of those people in that great original thread who had never heard of the "puddle" variation. I sure wish they would not have deleted it as there was a lot of info in it that is now lost. I have had multiple copies of the yount over the years, but no puddles. maybe i should search one out!!
the 1975 Brett is probably my single favorite Baseball card. I love the image of a young George Brett and I love the color scheme of the card. to me it is just perfect!! Not from KC (or even close) but George was always one of my favorites growing up. he was grit personified. I never got to see him play live, but every time he was playing the Red Sox, i was tuned in, seeing if he could bounce a double off the monster or rip a line drive to deep center and leg out a triple.
I have not owned hundreds of the 75 brett like you, but have owned many. I still have the original one I purchased back in 1992. I sent it into SGC a few years ago and it came back a 7. I also have my PSA 9 run of regular topps, mini and OPC. such a classic card!! i am so glad he got a stand alone card and not one of the 4 up rookie cards like Rice did.
I got my 9's years ago when they were around the $1k mark. I sure wish i would have paid up and gotten 10's instead.
Nice Brett rookies Count! I once pulled a nice Brett rookie from a rack pack, sent it in and got a PSA 9. I sold it for $500 because it was a little washed looking, not bright colors. Figured I would buy one that I liked better. Then prices skyrocketed! Never got another 9 but have several 7’s-8’s.
I’m doing one raw set, putting them all in card savers.
Keep those 75’s coming!

The best 7 that I own, in my opinion.

The only mini that I still have.

A BVG 6.5 that I think I picked up cheap way back when for a possible crackout for a raw set. I decided that I preferred it in the holder.

Just sold almost all my collection and my Brett rookie PSA 9 was one of 3 cards I would not sell. It was my holy grail as a kid and I love it.
brett and yount rookies are great looking cards thank you for showing them.
