My first details coin (1841-O Seated Half - baseball variety)

A good friend ( @Pickwickjr) cherry picked this coin raw on ebay and was kind enough to release it to me. My buddy @skier07 submitted to PCGS on my behalf and it was graded XF Details due to the obverse scratch. Nonetheless, it's an interesting variety (WB-2 Medium O) and, according to Bill Bugert, almost all found are in grade XF or below and are scarce. Hope you enjoy!

That's a great variety and a great looking coin. Sorry about the obverse scratch...I was just testing the coin to see if it was actually silver when someone offered it to me...my bad!

The scratch is nothing relative to the beauty of the rest of the coin.
That would straight grade some days, but it's a cool coin regardless.

Xf details?!? Man, that has both a lot of meat AND it’s very eye appealing to pull that result… assuming the upper portion of the eagle is always poorly struck on these due to the die failure?
Amazing coin and I have seen worse scratches on coins in straight graded holders, even with stickers.
Personally, I feel circulation grade coinage with minor scratches should straight grade. Not to be confused with intentional (graffiti) the example shown is more from what would be found through circulation, extra-fine, as intented. Particularlly when said scratch does not distract from it's overall appeal. That said, I find absolutely nothing wrong with certain details graded coins, as a collector they often offer great eye appeal at a fraction of the straight graded's market value. This being a prime example. Nice score!
