The show was essentially a member’s show without the food & drink. This was frustrating because I was hungry by the time I finally got to the show, and I wasn’t sure what PCGS was planning to do. They ended up only allowing dealers to eat the buffet style lunch. They had an entrance fee for non pcgs members, which I thought would cover their costs for the refreshments, but apparently not the case.
Show grades/crossovers were excellent, with extremely quick turnaround time (24 hours). Normally when pcgs used to do the Long Beach crossover special, they would get inundated with virtually all NGC slabs every dealer had in their inventories, causing show grading times to extend beyond 5 days sometimes.
There were about 30 dealers, with a few new faces who didn’t set up at the member shows. I didn’t purchase anything at the show, but I was somewhat surprised to see a few dealers with junk piles of 90%. Thought that would just get dumped to the smelters or the big boys to clear their cases for decent material.
Did PCGS validate the parking fee. The fee charged is quite excessive.
What are the parking options at Marriott Irvine Spectrum?
The parking options at Marriott Irvine Spectrum are:
On-Site Parking: Daily: $55.00
Long Term Parking
Valet: Daily: $55.00
Standard Daily Valet Rate - $15 first 2 hours with validation, max $55
Funny about the food, i went to the one early last year at MGM national harbor, I was only able to attend the fri at end of the week, very few people and dealers left, but they brought out so much food, it was a like a feast for a king, sea bass, chicken, steak, vegetables, amazing stuff, desserts. There was enough to feed 150+ people, about 10-15 ate at most.
Drove up on the Thursday for the day, to drop a box of 20 early dollars for the show crossover special, even though they would be mailed back to me. Met up with a friend and did one circle of the bourse. Said "Hi," to Taryn and asked about Collectors Corner participation. Self parking was apparently $25 for my short visit. But it failed on my credit cards. I buzzed the attendant in the hotel's lobby and they simply lifted the gate. I didn't notice the junk silver, which I was mildly accumulating. The smelters are overloaded and seems nobody wants more of it. (Forget 40% and War nickels. They are numismatic kryptonite these days.)
I submitted a coin on Wednesday and parking at the Marriott was $35 for 2+ hours. There were ~30 tables and 5 were empty. There were a half dozen local dealers who were mostly selling coins in flips or from binders. I wonder how many of their clients turned around and went home after seeing the parking fee. The Irvine Spectrum is around 5-6 blocks away. Even though parking is free it’s probably not a good idea if you’re carrying coins or money. On a very sad note a vest pocket dealer was most likely followed from the show and in an elaborate scam he lost $90k of coins.

It was worth it, and I’d attend again.

I was surprised 3 CAC coins failed to cross. 3 non-CAC crossed.
The CAC coins will cross, have to try again.
