Two very entertaining games last night.

OKC over Indiana in double overtime, with SGA scoring 55 points (after his 35 points in game one he is averaging 45 ppg).

GSW over Denver in overtime. Aaron Gordon scores 50 (going 17-21 from the field). Curry scores 42 (35 after halftime). GSW has 7 players in double figures.

    The Celtics are horrible

Spurs looking good thru 3 games, haven't lost yet. And they've been without their full compliment of players.

Wemby is primed to have a monster year if he can stay healthy. Small sample size, but a great start. And these numbers don't include SIX blocks per game.

Cavs win 3rd straight - Mitchell averaging over 30ppg without Garland playing.

If this is what basketball has turned into I don't know if I can watch this all season - Cavs/Celtics jacked up 109
3 point shots last night. No fundamentals, just run up and down the court and letting it fly. No more "let the best team win" - it's now who is on target wins.

My buddy who was always an NBA fan is done with it because of what you just posted, I pay attention only because of the betting part of it.

Well with this style of 3 point shots it may even make betting on games a bit tough at times. Unless you always bet the "Over" - :D

Always wondered what the "+/-" stat line was so I finally looked it up - seems like a pretty ridiculous stat to even worry about, but...................

In basketball statistics, +/- (plus/minus) measures the point differential a team has while a specific player is on the court. A positive number means the team outscored the opponent when the player was in the game, while a negative number means the team was outscored. This stat indicates a player's overall impact on the game's scoring, regardless of individual stats like points, rebounds, or assists.

    How it works:
Calculation: The total points scored by the player's team minus the total points scored by the opponent, during the time the player was on the court.

Positive (+): The team scored more points than the opponent while the player was on the floor.

Negative (-): The opposing team scored more points than the player's team while the player was on the floor.

Example: If a player's team outscored the opponent by 10 points during their minutes on the court, their plus/minus would be +10.

    What it shows:
Impact beyond box score: It can highlight the contribution of players who excel at things not always captured in traditional stats, like defense or good off-ball movement.

Identifying effective lineups: It can be used to identify which combinations of players are most effective when on the court together.

Potential for variance: A single player's plus/minus can fluctuate significantly from game to game because it is heavily influenced by the performance of the other players on the court at the same time.

@Steven59 +/- is a good stat to breakdown which players affected winning on any given night and total over the season.

    Some examples from last night…
Evan Mobley was -2 against Philly which means the 76ers outscored the Cavs by 2 points when Mobley was in the game. The Cavs pretty much built their big lead with Allen (+24) and Mitchell (+17) out there.

    In Boston’s game, Pritchard was a +36 compared to Jaylen Brown’s +11.

The league also keeps track of this stat over the full season and it looks like Alperen Sengun & the Joker are both currently tied at a total +104 each after 7 games.

Mitchell had a nice game yesterday, 46 points on 15 - 21 shooting and 10 - 10 from the line.

When he gets going on the offensive end he’s one of the most lethal scorers in the league. I still remember that 7 game series he had against Denver earlier in his career when he averaged just under 40 for the series with a couple 50+ games.

With no clear cut favorite in the East this season, this might be his best chance to finally lead his team into the final four.

All green isn't too bad - a few teams are going with an all red court.

Cavs vs Heat tonight should be a pretty fast "run and gun" type game tonight.

Saw a news report that NBA 4 time All Star Michael Ray Richardson has passed away at age 70 from prostate cancer.

I played basketball in Denver Public School League during my three years in high school (grades 10-12 were high school and grades 7-9 were junior high school when I attended in 1971-1972, 1972-1973 and 1973-1974).

During that time Michael Ray (aka Sugar Ray) played hoops for Manual High School (located in North Denver in a predominantly black neighborhood). Our two teams played twice each year. In our senior year he was the starting 2 guard at 6'3" tall. The other starters for Manual that year were 6'0" (point guard), 6'7" and 6"7" (forwards) and 6'8" (center). All five of the starters went on to play D-1 hoops (including at Kentucky and Arizona).

Manual High School made it to the State Championship game (at the highest level of competition) that year and lost the game to a suburban high school (Bear Creek) who had many of its players also play at the D-1 level in college.

During the state tournament Michael Ray led all players in rebounding (so much for the rebounding ability of the front line players on his team).

He got recruited by Jud Heathcoat to Montana of the Big Sky Conference (Jud Heathcoat subsequently moved on to Michigan State and Magic Johnson after being at Montana). Michael Ray grew during college to 6'5" and he became one of the best college players in the country.

After his senior year at Montana, Michael Ray was drafted #3 by the Knicks in the 1978 NBA draft.

I had graduated college in the spring of 1978 and during the summer of 1978 I was living in Denver at my parents house waiting for the fall when I moved to California and went to law school.

While in Denver that summer I played hoops at a local recreation center located in a park adjacent to my high school. While at the center one day in early July, 1978 (shortly after the NBA draft) I saw another guy who played high school hoops during my years in school. We chatted and he told me he had been at the center the day before; and that while he was there Michael Ray showed up to play some pickup ball. He said that Michael Ray showed up at the recreation center driving a brand new Rolls Royce automobile :) looking Very Fly B)

Unfortunately Sugar Ray became addicted to cocaine and that led him to be banned from the NBA. If he had not become addicted he would have likely been an all time NBA great. After he was banned from the NBA he continued to play hoops overseas in Europe. He played until he was in his mid 40s', retiring in the early 2000s if my memory is correct.

    RIP Sugar Ray

btw the Mavs succumbed to the clamoring and canned Nico Harrison

may end up being one of the worst moves any GM has ever made

    11 games in a svelte Luka is putting up 37.1, 9.4 & 9.1

meanwhile the Mavs are almost DFL in the West

Should be an ugly game for the Cavs tonight - a lot of people out with the only starter playing is Allen.

LOL! And the Cavs win 130 - 116 with their bench playing.
