And now Wentz is out - who's the Vikings QB now?

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Carson Wentz has been placed on injured reserve and will undergo season-ending surgery on his left shoulder, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported

McCarthy has been named starter for next week's game against the Lions.

Jets only won because I bet the Bengals

My buddy bet Cincy and was becoming undone as the Bengals just kept trying to give that game away and they finally did.

I had four favorites slated to wager on
    Buffalo covered easily
    Patriots covered easily
Chiefs on the fence but when it dropped from 14.5 to 11.5. I was all over it but didn’t
Cincinnati playing an 0-7 team after smoking Pittsburgh. Easy right?
Joe Burrow is wasted in Cincinnati only because you can’t pay 4 players 80% of your salary cap and expect to draft starters and back ups at every other position. Just doesnt work in the long haul

I been saying it for awhile that the best thing Cincy could do is rid themselves of Burrow, obviously he is an elite QB but literally every snap of the ball you got to be sweating him getting hurt, he is just an injury prone player and you cannot count on him to stay on the field

    The best ability is availability

Now, at the mid-point of his 2nd season, I think the true assessment of JJ McCarthy will be completed. I don't have much hope that it will be good.

@Syeven 59, as for Dillon Gabriel, he isn't the problem for the Browns right now just like he wasn't the solution when the team dumped Flacco. The offense has far too many problems and management keeps trying to fix them all at the same time. When will they move on from the Bitonio/Teller/Conklin/Pocic disaster that seems to be always injured to some degree?? If the Browns don't fix the Offensive Line problems they'll never achieve any success.

I'm not sold on McCarthy, but that's simply a ridiculous take.

He missed all of last year with an injury and got hurt again this year. That's what concerns me.

He's 21 years old, has 2 NFL starts and your ready to complete his assessment?

I'll wait until AT LEAST the end of the season, and probably longer.

Both QB's the Vikings had on the roster (Jones and Darnold) were supposed to be "washed up" and are doing well.

If the Vikings can't find a Center and both of their offensive Tackles are still hurt this week. JJ might not last the game.

For much of the season the entire O line is different (and MUCH worse) than last years unit. Left tackle Darrisaw hasn't completely recovered from surgery, left guard is a rookie, All Pro center free agent out with a concussion, right guard is a new free agent and right Tackle O'Neil has been hurt for a few games. We don't even have a Center. A guard is playing there.

Wentz got obliterated because of the horrific pass blocking and is done for the season.

No quarterback is going to be successful behind this disaster of an O line

Ithink basing McCarthys "true assessment" on just 2 games is a little silly. A high draft pick QB should have at least a full season, probably 2 before he is deemed a bust. McCarthy has really just started.

he obviously does seem very injury prone though.

The issue for McCarthy is that the rumors have been that the team - coaches and front office - has seen enough and does not have any confidence in him.

ouch. If true, hard to come back from that! when coaching staff has lost confidence they might just as well trade him.

Isn't JJ the youngest (or one of the youngest) QB's in the NFL?

Hard not to notice how teams like the Packers refuse to rush QB's into a starting role until they are ready.

I was in favor of signing Dan Jones when it became likely that Darnold was going to get a big contract and move on.

If the coaches and front office didn't have confidence in JJ, I would think they would have found a way to keep Jones.

He's going into Detroit next week with possibly an average to above average COLLEGE quality offensive line. So you JJ haters should be drooling in anticipation.

I really don't know how anyone can have an informed opinion of the guy. He hasn't played, and he wasn't asked to carry his team at Michigan.

My concern is his injuries, and with a putrid offensive line, he's probably going to get clobbered a LOT in Detroit, and for the foreseeable future.

I don't know who's out there, but we're playing a back up guard at center right now. With the starter out with his second concussion and the back up(s) all hurt, they might want to sign an actual guy that plays center.

We better hope tackles Darrisaw and O'Neil can get healthy. They are our 2 best lineman.

    GO VIKINGS!

I heard this as a 'rumor' from someone who works with the Vikings before the season. Recently when McCarthy was not being rushed back from injury here I saw it again, but this time in a ESPN report about how this is proof the team has lost confidence in him. I don't know if it's true.

If the coaches and front office didn't have confidence in JJ, I would think they would have found a way to keep Jones.

It's not my rumor and I really don't have an opinion on McCarthy. From what I remember from Michigan you know... he could be good, but how would you know. I'm not a QB talent evaluator so I don't know what to look for. body size, frame, arm strength, footwork... probably lots of stuff and I could sit there with a clipboard and take notes but I couldn't tell you what the numbers mean.

Put him in at 425 for 12-16 or until the cheese has melted. NO! WAIT! That's the recipe for Packers QBs!

I have no. idea if McCarthy will be good or not, the sample size of 2 games is nothing but I will say the Vikes front office more than likely should get drug tested for being stupid.

Let's draft a kid from Michigan who never had to throw and put him behind a college level O Line?

Early draft picks should be solid passers or OL if you need that, if a kid who rarely threw the ball is there or an O Lineman then you take the best O Lineman.

McCarthy could be the next Brady or Josh Rosen we don't know, all we got is he is built like Joe Burrow and only played 2 games

    OOPS.

The Vikes have 2 very good tackles. Both hurt. They went out and got a pro bowl type center. Hurt. Rookie at one guard, unproven young guy at the other. We have a back up guard at center? WTF!

McCarthy might get killed in Detroit.

Daniel Jones with his running ability would have at least a chance. JJ has bad legs already.

@JoeBanzai and @craig44, I meant that the true assessment of JJ McCarthy will be completed from now till season's end, not in this one game vs. Detroit. I figured you'd infer as much and can understand how my post was misunderstood.

    Sorry for the confusion.

I've heard a saying once, which as sayings go seems as reasonable as any... "You can't get fired drafting linemen". He was a former WR so maybe it was sour grapes over being selected in the 6th.

I'm not sure if I agree.

If the offensive line gets and stays healthy, that's one thing, but even then, I'm not sure.

If we keep putting him out there behind a bunch of back ups (my dad called them "scrubeenies" miss you dad) his career might be over.

Regardless it's actually a pretty fair statement, great Lineman can make a slightly above average QB a pro bowl player

does anyone keep up with the Colts? watch their games? i do not, but the reason i mention that team is because i have their stud back on my fantasy squad. i knew Taylor was good when i drafted him, but i never expected this. his name is never mentioned around here, but it should be because he's on pace for 2200+ yards from scrimmage and 30 touchdowns.

if anyone answers yes to either of the above questions, talk to me about their o-line. he's a menace, but the mammoths in front of him have to be road graders. amiright?

RBs never get the love QBs do, especially when it comes to em vee pee talk, but a guy like him should. especially when his team has shocked everyone to the tune of 7-1. kid has been an absolute beast to this point.

Jonathon Taylor is a beast, he got lost in the shuffle in '22 and '23 but he rebounded well. last year and is all that much better now that they have a passing game going for them

Daniel Jones has been Phenominal which helps him not dealing with a stacked box and being the only offensive threat

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo reportedly also suffered an open tibia fracture and ruptured deltoid ligament in addition to the previously reported right ankle dislocation during his team's Week 8 loss to the NFC East Division rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday (October 26), a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday (October 29).
