SCNA Show Report

Took a long drive to Greenville,SC to attend my first show in nearly a year.
After months of health, moving to a new state, celebrated the closing of the sale of my house with some much needed "me" time.
Spoke to a couple dealers who felt Thursday was good and Friday not so good.
On this last day, it was obvious a few dealers had vacated.
Bought a stack of proof sets from a GA dealer. He spoke to me about an active coin club near Marietta. Probably the best money spent all day.
A South Carolina dealer from Charleston regalled me with football stories and recruits from my former hometown of Myrtle Beach.
Added the 3 volume set of the CPG to my bag.
Always strikes me how hard it is for the show dealers. A few comments on how much work they had repricing inventory with the fluctuations in PM'S. The long hours and travel.
There were more World coin offerings than I recall from the Charlotte show for example. Plenty of currency offerings.
Quite a few attendees selling and a number of dealers posting signs as buyers.
Not many Buff of Cent choices, but plenty of gold in many forms. Alot of Morgan offerings.
Think I am built for the Ebay experience. It can be exhausting mentally and as the $$$ flies, you consider the rational.
My proof sets had some nice color, a possible cameo, and one Jeff DDO that I paid up for. Felt like I got solid collector value.
No wine and 5 star dinners. But can't knock the Red Lobster flatbread.

Glad that your health allowed you to get back in the action. I don't have any wine or 5-star dinners either.
Nice report, sounds like you had a good experience, thanks for sharing it with us.
And I’m more of beer and wings guy myself 😎
+1. Glad to hear you are doing better as well.
Proud follower of Christ!
Like many issues, my tastes differ from others. I’m all in on fine wine and 5-star dinners.
Actually, Michelin stars are none, one, two or three (none higher, just as 70 is the highest score with Sheldon).
For wine, the 100 point scale is most commonly used. The wines in my cellar, typically low production boutique wines, ALL of which I intend to drink, not “save”, are typically rated at least 95 points by at least one of the three top reviewers (in my opinion). Does a high scoring wine mean I’ll like it? Not necessarily. And there are lower scoring wines that I do like. But once I’m familiar with a reviewers “taste”, a wine with a high score increases the chance that I’ll like it!
Am I a “wine connoisseur”? No. I refer to myself as a “wine geek”. Whenever my wife and I dine out, we always arrange with the restaurant in advance to bring wine from our cellar (never a wine on their list), always very willing to pay a “corkage fee”, always sharing our wine with any friends dining with us, and always sharing a taste with our server and the restaurant manager. We always bring copies of the tasting notes with those scores to give to others with us and the staff tasting.
Next week my mentor on Capped Bust Dimes and Capped Bust Half Dimes is flying down to my area, and we always go out to dinner, talk coins, and have fun!!!

@winesteven
Your post above reminds me of reading about Q David Bowers when he was on the road, whether at a show, or at the auction podium, etc...
" There's not a better time than when sitting with your friends having a fine meal together after a long day on the Bourse floor. The camaraderie shared between us is really special" (paraphrasing on my part).
Thanks for the share.
Steve, I’m envisioning a SWS stickering service for wine in your future!
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
The company is always more important than the wine. Good summary of the show. Thanks
The Company, wine and food are all excellent and looking forward dining with you @winesteven!
I had a good time at the show too. Did you see the young YN dealer? I think it was Palmetto Tree Coins, he had some good stuff for his age.
