There are apparently hundreds of phobias. If you can think of it, someone is probably afraid of it.

Definition:
A phobia is an intense or irrational fear of a specific object, situation, or activity that can cause significant distress and avoidance behaviors.

Agoraphobia
Claustrophobia
Acrophobia
Pteridophobia
Nomophobia

I can't even pronounce these words! 🤣

My phobia is simple. Having a fear of something significant, unusual, rare or scarce in my collection and not knowing it. What would you call that: Numisphobia??? How knows! 😂 😂

Another one of my numismatic fears is not seeing the next Cherrypickers Guide until I'm dead and buried!! 😂 🤣

What are your numismatic fears?

Disclaimer: I'm not a dealer, trader, grader, investor or professional numismatist. I'm just a hobbyist. (To protect me but mostly you! 🤣 )

I have softflipophobia, but it is not an irrational fear.

Fear of robbery, car breakdown, airports is a major stress factor in the business.

The process of transferring inventory to and from the bourse room of a show is stressful. Make it quick and all in one trip.

That smell coins leave on your hands even after washing 👎

Dropping a rare coin on the bourse concrete floor at a major coin show, expecially if it is not my coin. Although the sound it makes would be a terrific ring tone. (The sound of the coin, not the sound the dealer is making in my general direction.)

Both are unrelated but have to do with slabbed coins changing after my purchase:

    1) PVC appearing on a slabbed coin or filmophobia
    2) Red copper coins turning brown or developing carbon spots- BNphobia

Fear of latent fingerprints from both previous owners and myself makes me wash coins with acetone before placing them in saflips or albums while wearing gloves. Fear of developing spots or terminal toning makes me go overboard with desiccants and storing in Tupperware, glass jars, intercept boxes, ziplock bags. Fear of being robbed if going out of town makes me hide coins I have at home so good I often lose them for several years at a time.

My main fear would be ending up in a coma or deceased...and something happens where my collection or the more important stuff somehow doesn't make it to my family. I do love everything about it, but I'm not taking anything with me...

And just for this reason I have heart to heart talks with my two stepkids about my coins and collectibles whenever I can. They know I don’t have junk….so hopefully they will do the right things with my collection when it moves to them. I love how they have started putting ‘dibs’ on the coins they like!

Phobia is a bit strong of a word but I know what wakes me in the middle of the night, causes me to stress out for days, sometimes weeks etc.
I have a limited coin budget. Every coin I buy has the opportunity cost that a better coin that I may have wanted longer will appear. Can even be the coin/date I am buying but a better coin shows up shorty after I buy.
Like 90% of the crap we worry about it is meaningless and a total waste of time. Little difference that makes to my brain; he is often irrational and we are not talking to each other at the moment. James

Coins that I own getting damaged/developing PVC damage or corrosion. I have a beautifully toned 1955 nickel in a blue Whitman album that (I believe) developed a small corrosion spot over the few years I have owned it.
