Besides coins, this forum brings people together!

Having posted here for a while, a few pretty cool things have happened. I met a poster named Lordmarcovan….after I won one of his cool coin giveaways. As we chatted, I told him that I used to live in the town where he resides. To make a long story short, he treasure hunts in my old home’s yard (the home was built in 1890) and told me had found a few pretty neat coins there! Talk about a small world! Then I met Penny Harker at the Tampa coin show last year…and purchased one of my dream coins from her… a beautiful MS 64 RB 1909S VDB. And my most recent chats have been with poster Airplanenut. I private messaged him and found out we both have a love of aviation. One thing led to another and he asked me if I could get some information for him for a friend. Through my stepdaughter and a little digging we were able to obtain information for his friend about a particular airplane that flew on 16 April, 2003! I’ve also been chatting with Mark Feld who has thrown some wisdom my way when looking at and buying coins. Just think that in addition to coins, this forum really has a great feature of helping us make new friends and acquaintances due to our love of coins! Cheers, karl

Its important to have this 🙂
If you’d like to get more forum members to post to this thread I suggest changing the title from
“Besides coins, this forum brings people together!” to something like “Besides coins, this forum brings people together to tear each other apart”.😉

Behave yourself, Mark.
I was TRYING to be nice Mark….but we could continue it with “and beating dead horses to a pulp…” 😉
This forum launched my career.
Another message board is where I met my wife.
Message boards have been an enriching experience in my life. And it's a shame that message boards have been displaced by horrid social media.

You’ve said it all Phil! Very true! Thanks and congratulations on your forum ‘wins!’
I am perhaps the least tech savvy person on this site. I maintain a presence on this and 2 other coin sites; coin chat & mycollect.
My only other online group is a group focused on Papillons. See avatar. I have been online and lived with Paps for 26 years.
I have told this before. If my beloved best friend Cinnamon the Pap had not died I probably would still be living in numistmatic isolation.
Like most things in life, joining these boards has been a combination of blessings and curses. Kind of funny sometimes how little ground is left between those two poles. james
I am still in awe of how many truly wonderful people are out there in ‘forum land’ and especially here James, but sadly some of the most obnoxious seem to control many of the conversations. You just learn to pass by certain posters and absorb knowledge and wisdom through the other important posts. I must say my coin collecting has taken a different path since I started posting here, and my interest in some of the most amazing coins and varieties has blossomed. I’m sure Cinnamon is with you and will be waiting for you when the time comes, but glad you are here with us now! Cheers my friend, and happy collecting! Karl
So happy I joined last year. One of the better decisions I've made over my life.
Proud follower of Christ!
I find the level of experience and willingness to share numismatic knowledge here is top notch. To be able to chat with some of numismatics finest graders, photographers, owners, and experts is beyond cool in my opinion. Nice to see so many willing to share what they know…and treat others with respect and kindness. Sure there’s a few outliers but not many! 🤔😉Cheers, karl
I want to meet PCGSCACGOLD. We have a lot in common, or should I say we have a lot in common in eye appeal.
Yes! I've had wonderful correspondence with several members here and their influence has certainly improved my collecting and has helped me appreciate different types of collecting. I became a die marriage guy and a cherry picker, and folks here have stimulated that interest. Others have enticed me into purchasing higher grade, more colorful coins, and that has also been rewarding for me.
Discussions about cleaning and grading with several members have helped relax some extreme standards that I had developed in isolation from the hobby for three decades. Apparently, that's still a work in progress. Members have also enabled me to step out and start selling my coins for the first time, which was very educational experience for me. PCGS people like PCGS_Hy have stepped in and helped me correct some really frustrating errors by their staff, which was great. I've formed friendships with other collectors with whom I've swapped coins, and who also share similar interests outside of collecting, which helps keep me sane.
So, yeah, this is a great place to be for coin collectors. Just watch the language.
I would not have purchased this coin 15 years ago. It has nice color for starters, but I had concern about some light wiping and light tooling around a scratch in the lower obverse field. These minor issues and the lighter region on the reverse would have scared me away, but I bought it for a closer look. Drawing from others' constructive comments on grading and what I've observed from graded coins, I decided they were minor, so I submitted it to CACG. It graded XF45.
well. I had the pleasure of actually meeting and spending some time with BONGO BONGO.
Than this seems to be an appropriate setting for this image.
This forum has always been one of my very favorite places to visit.

I’m hooked on this forum for the reasons mentioned above, always reading the first two pages every night.
When I first went to Winter FUN, all I needed was a bit less than one day to go through the 600 - 700 or so tables. Now I need two full days, since I cherish the time I now spend talking with many of you and several dealers.

I taught for thirty-seven years. It’s now my turn to hang around people who inform me of things other than human nature. I want to have a cocktails someday with you guys. While I wait I sit in the back with the other dumbasses who can’t behave when the lesson goes off track.
I went to FUN last year for the first time but only had one day as it was wedged in the middle of a family Disneyworld vacation. Trying to get through that bourse was impossible, even with only a moderate amount of socializing. You must have been sprinting!
Luckily I have an extra day for this upcoming show, hopefully it will be a bit more relaxed.

Actually, I bring a "large" sign, specifically indicating what three or four items I'm looking to buy. That speeds thing up tremendously, so as I get to a table that might have what I want, i just show the sign, and the dealer sees it right away, and will then often shake their head "No". It's not bad, even if they're with someone. Without the sign, you can't verbally interrupt.

What a great idea! These shows can be more than overwhelming……so that would cut down on a lot of ‘hunting’ time. Think I’ll give it a shot! Thanks! Cheers, karl
In large part thanks to this forum, I look forward to the people as much or more than the coins when I go to a show. Tom Bush first got me involved in local shows. I visited him on my long solo XC. My consignment business started here, and that’s become a successful business which has been going strong for over two decades. John Agre at CRO was my first passenger after I got my pilot license. I’d say something nice about Mark Feld, but his head doesn’t need to get any bigger. And whether it’s just a conversation at a show or some activity at or unrelated to a show, I’ve interacted with TONS of people on these boards.
And thanks again for the help! One day we’ll have to cross paths in person, too.

Thank you (??), Jeremie.😉

You’re welcome! Maybe we can meet up at the Roswell Air Races! Cheers Jeremy, karl
For one thing, Mr. Big Head is terrible at spelling names. I before e, except after c. Or when there is no ie or ei at all.
But he’s not bad with coins.
Couldn't agree more
