Whats the new craze when it comes to older holders?

USMarine6USMarine6 Posts: 1,969 ✭✭✭✭✭

We've all seen the prices soar for the white labels, doilys, and such. So what do you think might be the next new craze? I was thinking maybe coins graded ms60. Thoughts?

Maybe MS-60 CAC/Gold CAC. That shows a superior coin and already command premiums now. Pretty much the only reason why they would not be stickered is because of common OGH coin PVC.

It’s like a coin holder side interest thing for some of them.

Others may think some them undergraded.

Beats me. If I thought I knew I wouldn’t share. “Craze” is the perfect word BTW.

I don't think there will be another.
Any other holder is plentiful and not important enough in TPGS history. The only thing maybe remotely like the old holders would maybe be CACG samples- but there are tons of them, or CACG "L" legacy holders. They stopped doing that pretty quickly didn't they?

"Craze" is an apt word to use when people are paying premiums for coins in Accugrade holders. "Headdesk" is another.

The next craze on my radar is 1932 dated quarters. We’ve got about six years to stock up. Should be a giant spike in prices like with the 1921 peace dollar.

I dont think MS60s are overdue for much love, but eventually the green label slabs will attract premiums even if the coins in them are stinkers

I would never buy a 60 regardless of the slab.

I think rattlers and OGH Coins are increasing and will continue to do so.

If we want to get funky and esoteric I'd guess OGH graded AU58 with a CAC gold sticker. The pool of such coins would be amazingly small, but I could see folks going after them hard.

There you go, @oih82w8 just made the process tougher for those AU58 OGH/Gold CAC sticker folks!

I've never sent any of my coins into CAC for a sticker and I own quite a number of rattlers and OGH's. This is primarily because I have no local authorized CAC dealer nearby -- closest one would be a 2 to 3 hours drive.

Both of those look very solid for the grade

If you can pull any Gold Stickers your trip would be paid for many times over. The multiples on those right now is crazy.

In the case of the long-time PCGS member that has submitted for decades make sure to let them know the Rattler slab Boxes that the coins came back in for for almost $300 each on eBay and that is for ones that show wear and tear.

I don't mind MS60 coins at all, especially when in an old holder and when they contain nice coins. In fact, I look for them, also MS61's. Note: the 1856 gold dollar is an upright-5 that wasn't attributed back then. Don't know if either of these were ever sent to CAC -- they haven't been since I've owned them.

Neither of those coins are MS-60!

The MS-60 coins posted here are exactly why the grading services need to explain the grades. Tell me WHY the coin graded like it did. Id like to know why the grade was assigned after the 7 second "examination"

Collectors are people. People like the things of their childhood like old slabs, Tonka trucks and Train sets.

I’ll admit that those are nice and would almost certainly grade higher, today, if cracked out and resubmitted. I don’t recommend doing that, of course.

Don't worry, these two coins will remain intact in their PCGS OGH's, as will my other OGH's and Rattlers.

Never could figure that out. I hated the way coins rotated in the rattlers. Cracked a couple rattlers for upgrade one time though. Broke even.

Holder fetish seems to be rather common in this forum.
