Gold, zinc or science experiment?

While doing a survey of how much copper averaged out in bank rolls I stumbled on a gold cent. It brought back memories of my 6th grade science class and how our teacher showed us how to turn a copper cent into a gold cent. What do you think, science experiment, gold coin or plating issue?

it may be tarnished brass. science experiment. maybe. the mint can spit some out of the plating process.
