REA Marketplace just listed this card with the following description "an incredible PSA GEM MINT 10 example of his 1968 Topps. It’s a flawless example of one of Mays’ most beloved cards".

    Yep look less than min size. I'm thinking its a fake or "reseal"

    BTW no buyer protection from them. Purchasing that Mays is like pissing away $65000.

    Clearly the gum has ripped through the top left of the pack and it is NO longer an 8. So is REA lazy, ignorant, incompetent or malicious or some combination thereof. There is no additional choice!

    Not unusual to find an undersized card in a very old slab. Graded in the mid/late 90s would be my guess. The presentation of that card now would struggle to receive a PSA8 assuming it would measure up. Otherwise, no better than Authentic.

    Did not realize it was like that last century. I was RAW only until Summer of 2000 my first sub IIRC was Jan 2001. I still think I deserved a 10 on my 93 SP Jeter :)

    You lose your credibility defending the 10-grade on this card…by saying “incredible “ and “flawless “ when describing the card.

    That said, I've noticed far worse examples and have also noticed these issues are rarely mentioned by any seller when listing PSA graded wax packs.

    PSA CERT Pic shows a normal crease https://www.psacard.com/cert/95551387/psa :

    REA Pic shows a color breaking tear has developed in same area

    Perhaps not as egregious as my first post indicted but it appears the pack is now in lower grade than when PSA imaged it.

    In a backwards kind of way, loose gum that rips the wrapper appeals to me. It tells me that the gum has not melted onto the top card causing significant damage to possibly multiple cards. It signifies a fresh pack. Now, that said, I'd much prefer that the gum play nice and only shift around in the center of the pack to avoid rips.

    Interesting thought! For those who rip Vintage that may very well be a selling point?

    For packs, a pet peeve of mine is when a seller says, "well, it was a" [enter grade number here] "when it was put into the slab," when trying to convince me to buy. I mean, it probably was before the pack was squished in there, but my OCD can't handle looking at it.

    and it was probably even higher grade than that when it first rolled of the Topps assembly line....

    There is reason I consider Cards dealers and sellers a notch below those who own used Car lots.

    As long as the holder is designed the way it presently is, wrapper tears from loose or broken gum will be an issue. I wish they would utilize a mylar wrap within the well of the holder to help immobilize the gum so when the pack is in transit, the petrified gum doesn't act as a razor blade. It's a frustrating issue for pack collectors along with packs that are crammed into wells that are not wide enough to properly accommodate the pack.

    I store my wax slabs horizontally to avoid issue but it sucks that I can't display them vertically...except for packs where gum has fused with the cards.

    Agree a mylar insert would probably help although needs to be tested to ensure no other issues are introduced.

    PSA has utilized the mylar wrap on occasion but has not done so on a consistent basis.
