Gorgeous reverse toning on Morgan Dollars but can anything be done to save the obverses?

These two Morgans came out of a group of Morgans and Peace dollars that appear to have been taped into a book of some type. The Peace dollars do not exhibit the reverse toning that the Morgans do. There is an abundance of color on these 1886-P Morgan reverses but the obverse toning unfortunately is not as attractive. There appears to be some goo where the tape has been removed which can probably be removed with an acetone bath. Would the acetone change the dark toning (which does appear somewhat lustrous when angled in the light)....it's not a "flat" finish. These are well struck and appear to have been put away while brilliant uncirculated. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is there actually a raised glue residue on the obverse surfaces? If not, I would just them as they are.

I did see the first images... was sort of waiting whether the Platters rendition of Twighlight Time was soon to follow- just kidding

The acetone bath is a start to remove goo and should not effect the toning but I would not dip the obverse, i.e. cue-tip wash. Black toning usually will always leave a shadow behind as the toning progressed to the terminal state. Enjoy as is. I had the same effect on a 78CC that was slabbed. The luster was still strong under a light when tilted.

That looks very similar to the Morgans that I have. May I ask what grade your coin was given?

I do not collect morgans but will say , even thought the toning is rather unique, I would dip in Lustre dip and restore as close to white as possible. james Good Luck

Acetone first to remove the goo, then MS70 rolled on with a q-tip for the obv. It may not remove all the heavy toning but will lighten it; is not harsh like a dip and can be controlled to just the obv. Rinse off and then a second acetone bath to make sure. You might want to try this procedure with another coin or the one you least like to see the results.

!. Carefully remove the glue residue.
    2. Promote heavily as unique toning.
    3. Hope that someone wants to pay a premium for them.

    The 78CC was a PCGS MS 62

Guess folks in the past like to tape at a 30 degree angle or starting at the top around 2:00.

I think they are fine how they are, just remove any tape residue and then leave as-is.

Both coins have terminal toning on the obverse. I would only acetone them and leave them as is. Any attempt dip, even a mild dip, will give them a washed out appearance.
