Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee Meeting Recap (September 2025)

My name is Kellen Hoard, and I currently serve as one of the Representatives of the General Public on the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee. I am an undergraduate student, and the youngest person to ever serve on the Committee. For those of you unfamiliar with the CCAC, it was established in 2003 by Congress to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on the themes and designs of all US coins and medals. The CCAC serves as an informed, experienced and impartial resource to the Secretary of the Treasury and represents the interests of American citizens and collectors.
This is the tenth installment of my updates about what the CCAC is doing at its meetings. I think it is critical that the collecting community have insight into and input to the CCAC, and will try to answer any questions you may have.
Here is my update for the CCAC meeting on September 16, 2025.
Candidate designs for the Forgotten Heroes of the Holocaust Congressional Gold Medal were discussed in consultation with the congressional liaison for the program, Ezra Friedlander. The CCAC recommended the following obverse and reverse designs:
Candidate designs for the 2026 Green Lantern Coin and Medal were discussed in consultation with Preston Kevin Lewis, Head of Consumer Products & Retail Strategy - Americas for Warner Bros. Discovery. The CCAC recommended the following obverse and reverse designs (there will be inscription differences between the coins and medals, which you can see in the link above):
Candidate designs for the 2026 Robin Coin and Medal were discussed in consultation with Lewis. The CCAC recommended the following obverse and reverse designs (there will be inscription differences between the coins and medals, which you can see in the link above):
Candidate designs for the 2026 Supergirl Coin and Medal were discussed in consultation with Lewis. The CCAC recommended the following obverse and reverse designs (there will be inscription differences between the coins and medals, which you can see in the link above):
Let me know if you have any questions about the work done in this meeting; I will try to answer as well as I can, but there are contraints on what I am able to share publicly. Please remember that the CCAC does not make the final decision; instead, it makes its recommendation (alongside the Commission of Fine Arts) to the Secretary of the Treasury. If you would like to watch the September meeting in full in order to see all of the deliberations, it is available on Youtube here.

Green Lantern is an underrated Super.

I think I understand the symbolism on the holocaust medal, but it seems a little obtuse. Can you elaborate? Perhaps share descriptive comments by the artist?
I think it refers to diplomats of several countries that arranged for large numbers of exit visas. The medal does not name them so it appears that most will remain forgotten.
Why is the Earth behind Green Lantern a mirror image?
Is there ever a point where someone says "I can't do this anymore guys, it's just too dumb."
I like looks of the super woman gold ✨️ 💛
You’re absolutely correct!
It’s hard to believe that no one on the CCAC has even the slightest knowledge of basic geography before finalizing their recommendation of this Green Lantern design! If by chance this recommendation is accepted, hopefully SOMEONE higher up will have a bit of knowledge of geography to catch this error!
This major slip up then raises other quality issues - if the CCAC can’t see this easy error, what else are they overlooking on each of the final designs they recommend???

It’s impossible to believe. I believe that some did not pay attention. I would be disillusioned if Kellen, in grad school by now, did not recognize a backward map.
Kellen, don’t tell anyone. Let’s see if they mint them in reverse.
And, as usual, thank you for being the messenger.
Obviously no one here remembers the classic DC Green Lantern Visits Bizarro World issue.
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
Yes, Bizarro world. It was introduced in Superman comics in the late 1950s or 60s if I recall correctly.

Wait, a Robin coin and medal? Sigh.
Watching the discussion of the super hero coins makes me think it's SNL skit material, where a group of people take something ridiculous and analyze it in an overly serious manner.
I can imagine CCAC with a kid's refrigerator drawing: "I think Billy's dog simultaneously represents movement via the disconnected pencil lines of the tail while embodying the dynamic strength of cubism with the rectangular treatment of the canine head. Coloring outside of the lines is also a bold statement about the nonconformist attitudes prevalent in Miss Johnson's kindergarten class."
Per the Mint, the description was as follows for these designs (which were the first choice of the congressional liaison): Design FHH-O-09 depicts the hands of one of the Heroes placing a stamp on a passport. The stamp is of an acorn, symbolizing strength and hope for future life. Such travel documents were a means of survival for victims of the Holocaust, a literal “GIFT OF LIFE.” The inscription in Hebrew is the word “Zachor,” which means “Remember.” The inscriptions “FORGOTTEN HEROES OF THE HOLOCAUST” and “ACT OF CONGRESS 2024” also appear. Design FHH-R-09 depicts a strong oak tree growing out of the open passport from the obverse. The Hebrew word for life appears on the tree, making it both a family tree and a Tree of Life. The Heroes being honored by this medal not only saved the victims of the Holocaust but also the lives of the generations that grew from them. The design includes the well-known translation from the Talmud: “WHOSOEVER SAVES ONE SOUL, SAVES AN ENTIRE WORLD.”

Thanks @MetroD for the video. I watched only the GL discussion and Interesting that there's no obvious consensus among the designs. The proposed designs at the top of this thread aren't my preference, but I'll be buying this one regardless.
The Congressional Medal is a worthy effort but the rest of the designs represent, in my opinion, the ongoing race to the bottom in coinage issues.
Let's see how far down the mintages can be driven due to lack of demand. Single digit thousands, then hundreds, then dozens, and finally a coin where only one example is minted and it still takes weeks for a sell out. 😕🥱😆
Absurdity without humor, though. Committees and three-hour meetings catalyze weird stuff. By two hours I’ll say anything to end it sooner, because to me at that point my comfort and sanity rate higher than my opinion.
The favored reverse of GL (no.3?) highlights the word “OF”‽
Despite the apparent geographic oversight with the GL obverse, they definitely 'deep dive' the candidate designs.
The debate about whether GL should be depicted carrying his lantern was interesting.
They failed to note that Diogenes carried a lantern in daylight—hidden symbolism‽
Maybe it’s me, but the designs look like something a committee created, by those who never read a comic.
I’m going to be all over the Green Lantern one. Only I wish they did a better job with the design, but I’ve been a bit obsessed with Green Lantern and The Flash ever since I captured the “Green Flash” sunset images down at the beach at sunset a while back

I’ve even been toying around with AI to design some of my own, not true art, but just for fun

Here’s my favorite, I call it “The Green Flash”
