Worlds Fair of Money variety attribution drop-off produces disappointing results (1849 H10C) - updat

I thought that it was straightforward and simple, dropping off a coin for Variety Attribution while our host was in OKC. I filled out the form correctly, Gold Shield Reholder with Major Variety Attribution with the proper PCGS Coin Number (4342 1849/6 H10C 9 Over Widely Placed 6). I asked the kind lady that was finishing of the submission form if I filled it out correctly and was understood, I even pulled out my loupe so she could see the Pick Up Points, both OBV and REV. And then we wait. My order was checked in at our host location in California on 02 Sep 2025, and was out the door on 10 Sep 2025. On a positive note, that was one of the fastest submissions I have ever had, but it was too fast to ask for a second look of the missed variety which was not indicated on the submission results page. The customer service representative informed me that it was already in the outgoing shipping area and she could not verify if the variety was indicated on the insert. According to the CoinFacts page...it is not. The CS informed me that I could request a FedEx prepaid label for a second look if I desired it. I told her that I would have to wait and see, and if need be to ask for her directly.

And the TrueViews above leave quite a bit to be desired. We miss you @PhilArnold ![]()
Here are the PUP's per Clint @yosclimber

I am fairly certain that this coin will require another trip to our host, but it will have some additional literature to go along with it for educational purposes.

Yes, it's a classic V-2 example, with all the obvious Reverse die cracks,
the under digits (4 6) are also visible within the 4 9 and as lumps on top of the 4 9,
and the correct date position.
Frustrating if they did not get it right.
If wrong, they must not be using my attribution guide.
If they are trying to use the Cherrypicker's Guide, that's a poor choice.

(Sigh!)
Bad attribution, bad tv as stated, and you were already on the phones with CS? I’d have just requested the feature label even if you wanted to wait. They won’t get charged if it doesn’t get used, might not be so easy to get through again.

I did call customer service when I noticed it was not attributed correctly. The representative put me on hold and went to check on the order whereabouts. It was already in the shipping area awaiting pickup. She said that once its in the outgoing shipping area, there was nothing she could do besides offer a retour of the process via a prepaid FedEx shipping label.
I really wish that were using @yosclimber attribution guide. I printed out a reference page that will accompany the retour.
The lump on the cap and crack from the top of the head to the rim are there as well.

After four calls to customer service, I was informed that the variety attributors are more than likely at coin shows on the road which could explain the delay in responding back, and to check back in a week. I asked if no one is taking care of the varieties already in house? She could not say. Aggravating to say the least.

I totally get the frustration. I've started calling weekly on my variety reholder. It hasn't accomplished anything.

Did they just correct the online page or the holder also?

06666579 is the plate coin for the V-2 die pair in the 1849 half dime attribution guide, an MS-65 from the Simpson-Bender collections.
@oih82w8 's coin is also a V-2, but not the same coin.
She popped back up on my orders at the home base. I'll keep the forum posted.

Sorry for your hassle. i would send to VSS Variety Slab Service in the future. Cheaper, faster and less hassle. James
join the club! I have these same Variety problems all the time/. their show expert says yes to it, and when it goes in with a note as to what he said they dont give it to me. I have sent variety catalog photos with other submittals , plus my notes again NADA! I have lost a lot of confidence in our hosts variety team. I have over 50 years studying my specialty, I have photos of my varieties in Cherrypickers. I have consulted for PCGS a few times. Its getting too costly to resubmit and resubmit, complain etc. Sorry not a happy customer.
I have used VSS previously, but when it comes to selling, especially to dealers, they want the PCGS attribution.

I noticed when i got to the house after my part time job that the certification app s/n was "invalid". Progress. Then i checked my order status online and, yes, the description: 1849/6 H10C was annotated. I did send a couple of printed pages of additional pups from Clint's ( @yosclimber ) identication material on the 1849 H10C varieties. Hopefully they will use it for future reference. Wheels are turning, and persistence pays off.

It's great to see your persistence paid off with your coin now in a properly attributed holder.
