How Successful Has the ANS Been in Fulfilling Its Original Stated Founding Purpose of 1866?

In the Introduction to its first issue, Vol. 1, May, 1866, The American Journal of Numismatic (n/k/a the ANS), set out it founding purpose below.

Now, almost 160 years later, how, successful, in you opinion has the ANS been in fulfilling its original aspirational purpose to be a check on "nefarious & improper acts"?

    Seems like the PNG sort of stepped into that role for the most part, but I would opine that TPG substantially helped level the playing field for the collector. I as far as I know, Edit: Title had to be corrected, and just like that, I know nothing at all 🙂.

    Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but that organization is the predecessor of the ANS. Not the ANA

    Yes, the ANA was formed in 1891 for purposes of numismatic education.

    Member - ANA Exhibiting Committee, Membership and Outreach Committee, George Heath Society, PAN, FUN, ANA Qualified Exhibit Judge, Joe Boling Award winner, Glenn Smedley Award winner.
