Congratulations on achieving that dream, to become a citizen of the United States of America.
You ask that we post a coin that embodies what the U.S.A represents.
I am posting this well circulated Fugio cent from my collection: The first coin of the U.S.A as a united nation, and it bears a powerful message: WE ARE ONE. That is what makes the U.S special.
The dream of becoming a U.S citizen has unfortunately, eluded me. I applied to be able to migrate to the U.S 18 years ago....and just last week I received a letter from the Immigration and Naturalization Service informing me that my application has been approved for further processing, pending interviews and other formalities. 18 years ago, now too late for me, considering my age....
how does our vermont maple syrup compare to yours?
Tough to say. I only really use maple syrup in lieu of simple syrup in an Old Fashioned. I’m more concerned with the flavor of Kentucky bourbon in this circumstance.
Say gang, what would be a good coin to commemorate this event?

A commemorative of any vintage or metal that speaks to you as an American. I like the 1987 Constitution commems but there are lots of other good patriotic ones as well.

You probably didn't come in through Ellis Island but figuratively speaking this might be appropriate for the occassion.

I am not skilled at pictures but wish you well. My mother came from Bohemia many years ago. I guess her coin would have been a 1929. I hope you find a coin that pleases and comemmorates this event for you. James

Phil,
Did you have to give up your Canadian citizenship? or can you be duel? Serious question from someone who has a granddaughter in Thailand.
No, I don't have to give up my Canadian citizenship. The US allows dual citizenship.
Hi Phil,
It is a big deal and takes quite a bit of time, effort and patience for any immigrant to become a citizen. And you're lucky. Only I think since the 1970s or 1980s did the U.S. allow immigrants to retain the citizenship of their country of origin.

Too bad the coin forum doesn't have a thread of the year award(TOYA).
I would certainly nominate this thread for such an honor.
Congratulations! Here’s a beautiful pic of yours:

I loved collecting Canadian stamps. Did you also collect them?
And congratulations on becoming an U.S. citizen! Your picture of this proof dime is my favorite.
Just don't try to pass off any of those Canadian coins in our (now your) vending machines or cash registers. 😡😃

Wonderful that you have become a citizen of this great nation! Congratulations Phil.
I believe this TV was from your PCGS tenure and it accurately captures the incredible eye appeal of this coin that I’m glad to own.

How about the 2019 collab between the USM and the RCM, the "Pride of Two Nations" set? Specifically, the SML.
Note the pattern of stars (U.S.) and maple leaves (Canada) around the perimeter of the obverse and reverse.

Almost everything I might want to say could be construed by some as too political. Suffice it to say, seeing this is really incredible. WTG!
