There was a VERY cool auction of large cents, I think it was Wednesday evening, at the Homewood Suites in Bricktown. ExTREMEly high end examples - way above my budget. I was there to help the first two days at Registration/New Member signup, plus judge exhibit Class 1, U.S. Coins, plus ANA committee meetings. Membership and Outreach plus Exhibiting. The quality of the exhibits generally was magnificent.

Those posts from four days ago appear to indicate “No”.

    ☹️

But the other guy paid double price guide. I’ll wait. Patience is a virtue.

Would anyone care to guess what it was I was going after?

Great coin, but you really gave it a hell of a run. I threw a little pip-squeak dart at it and I thought id be about 5k short or so, but with the way the bidding went on that coin, I don't think you were going to win at any price. Nothing surprises me anymore when I really want a coin, it's difficult because we become invested (emotionally) in them months before, so it feels like someone's taking it from your collection.

(CPG is 13k, coin has a LOT of red left on it)

It sold for over 38K in 2013. so it went down in value despite the high bid. or am I missing something

EAC is basically its own little world, pretty detached from the rest of the coin market. It hasn't followed the same trends, but when you use that logic, it looks like a bargain. The market is just different, presumably because it's more focused on die varieties and storage methods that result in color change. I noted that there was a TON of red, but it blew the guides away, and there are others that only bring 60% of that 2014 comp. Really would need to ask an EAC guy, but if price appreciation was a primary goal, I'd probably advise looking elsewhere.
