Of course, the resale price is likely to be higher than the mint issue price.

Yup probably, even though I ALWAYS say no before the release date. But FOMO always gets me in the end. At this point, the ridiculous prices the mint charges only angers me, doesn't stop me.

  • HATTRICKHATTRICK Posts: 2,244 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'm back! Or was I here all the time ? Any way we will see if this coin can sell as well and sell out like the Army version. I will probably buy this one and Navy and Marines. Need an even number to leave for the two grand kids. It will be pre determined who gets what.
Should be no problem getting one if you want it.

I’m staring at the mint website trying to find what makes this special. I understand the Army/Navy/Marines due to patriotism, service, etc.
For the laser privy can anyone offer an explanation? No jokes or snide comments- why is this unique? Engraving innovation?

Thanks in advance for any insight

It is unique because it is a joke from Mint.

Honestly? Nothing other than the privy.

People like limited editions. 100K is relatively low for a proof ASE.

So they are now milking the cow dry with multiple 100K limited editions of the same coin in the same year. At some point people will get tired and move on, as they apparently already have with the 3 versions of Morgan and Peace Dollars every year now.

Maybe patriotism keeps interest in all three military privies strong. Maybe not.

Maybe people don't chase this because it really makes no sense, and is a blatant money grab. Maybe they do, because 100K is 100K, and they have to have everything.

TBD, but that's the insight. You're not missing anything by failing to understand it. It makes no sense beyond the Mint doing its best to create maximum interest in $105 per ounce silver.

Which only means, like the rest of us, they are waiting to see how things shake out. Which begs the question, why send out the e-mail in the first place? To expect us to wait for a price if they turn out to be hot, and to ghost us if they don't?

I'm guessing, The Mint is late at the latest trend - they believe they're getting in on the Meme Coin/Token craze (i.e. Doge Coin, Shiba Inu) and figured a new designed special laser-engraved privy mark would get them in.
The kids today will buy anything that's different. If the Mint had hired a Tik-Tok influencer to promote this latest privy mark coin, this could have been a much bigger deal.

Oh well, there are buyers out there paying $175 for this coin (and covering shipping)...so might as well jump in and get some extra spending money for the next coin purchase.

I think it bounces around because it's based on an estimate determined by how quickly people log out once they are in. So your estimate can bounce up or down, not because people are cutting in front of you in the virtual queue, but because the average person at any given point in time is lingering longer than they estimated the last time they updated your front page. In addition, of course, to the line simply moving. That's my understanding, in any case.

In any event, with 100K, and the last ones being readily available for more than a month due to aggressive ineligible order purging on the part of the Mint, I'm willing to bet all who want one here will be able to obtain one. If not today, in the days and weeks ahead.
