Besides the plating defect, another thing to take from your post is that you get far better results posting photmicrographs by either attaching your microscope to your computer if it is USB capable, or else use a memory card to transfer images, a photo of a microscope screen doesn't show details very well.
Keep hunting, and one tip, make a list of varieties that you are looking for from the Cherrypicker's Guide vol 1 or another good source so you don't waste time analyzing varieties that do not exist.
