Looks like a gentle, older cleaning (before being placed in an album). Is that a mint caused mark on the chin?

Clearly, my iPhone photography skills are as bad as I suspected!
PCGS graded it MS-64+ but it did not get a CAC sticker.

An apparent lack of luster is what garnered all the AU guesses. Probably just the lighting technique used for the photos. Pretty coin, especially for that issue.
AU, but tough one for me to call "choice" because of the amount of wear on the reverse and the chin void. My grade is 50 as a white coin but 53/55 with the color, I wouldn't be surprised to see JA sticker something like that in a 55 holder because of the minimal spread. If it failed as a 55 or below, I'd assume there's an issue with the surfaces (cleaning), but if it failed as a 58 I would lean towards it being too loosely graded for his tastes. It's a grade spread that doesn't really matter much, so a coin with nice eye appeal will get more of a reprieve from any of the TPGs.

FYI, when taking iPhone photos, you're better off conceding with getting a perfectly straight-on shot, and holding the slab under a gooseneck desk lamp on a slight angle where the glare isn't over the coin's surfaces. They're not perfect but, they come out pretty realistic imo. If you have a newer iPhone, you'll want to turn off the little yellow flower button in the bottom left of your screen so it doesn't switch lenses on its own, so you can use the optical zoom appropriately.

CAC might have not liked the color (they are generally more strict than the TPGs).
AU - no Cac. One of my fav Peace $ dates however.
I think 64 is a gift. Lacks any luster 2 wheel marks on the obverse, planchet flaw on the chin (weak strike?) marks all over prime focal area and what looks like marks in the hair.
Not hating the coin just think they gave it to much color love.
I don't see any wheel marks and if PCGS had detected them, they almost certainly would have noted them and detail-graded the coin. Even if there were wheel marks, many more times than not, they can't be seen in images.

One is above the R in trust and the other is between the 1 and 9 on the obverse and both easily seen with the naked eye.

I think it makes the cut for MS64, although I'm seeing the plus grade as a color bump more than a technicality. Peace dollars don't tone like this without a gentle cleaning, which is likely the reason it didn't sticker.
Even though the pictures aren't the greatest, I'm still surprised about all the AU guesses. I suppose this is a case where the first guess dictates how other people think of the coin.

I think the glare on some portions of the design details (such as on Liberty’s hair and eagle feathers) gave the appearance of differences in color which were consistent with light wear. That’s my excuse, anyway.😉

I would say 63 tops and thats pushing it with the gouge on the chin.

I like the coin at 64. While a little dark, the ring toning is very nice imo.

The luster found on Peace dollars is really increadable. I only have one and its raw. I bought it for my Dansco. Its a beauty.

From the picture I would have said AU55.
Here is a photo of my toned 1926S Peace Dollar that our host graded as MS64. Under the toning the coin has booming luster.
