And he wants me to make my reservations with him immediately! Because the rooms are selling out fast!
I wonder why . . . . . . . . ??
Eric Carter works for Event Housing Planners had his direct phone number is 702-766-1929 but in no way am I recommending you book with his company. In fact, it's the opposite - I don't want to trust someone to make a reservation who called me out of the blue like that.
I'll make my own reservation, thank you very much!

How would you know if he's who he claims to be? Did you ask him how he got your name and phone number? If he made a reservation for you, what are the chances that he would ask for your credit card number to reserve the room? There are just too many scams these days so you need to be ultra cautious.

Probably most of you know I posted this thread with some degree of sarcasm. The FUN Show folks diligently put out warnings not to deal with any unsolicited calls to "help" with hotel reservations.

Sadly, back then scammers didn't have the tools they have now to swindle and defraud unsuspecting recipients.

@oldtownecoinshop is likely a dealer who's registered on the public directory for the show we're used to dealing with these calls for several years now. Our phone numbers take little to no effort to find...

Correct. My contact information is plastered all over the internet, as is the case for numerous dealers. And it isn't always as simple as ignoring an unknown number since it could be a call from someone I don't know who wants to discuss coins.

@ChrisH821. What typically happens is someone you have done business with sells your info.
About 5 years ago a company called Blue Spectrum controlled and serviced my landline. Out of the blue I was getting bogus calls with people using phone numbers I had taken calls from in the past. Quite disconcerting to get calls from "dead" people.
Oct. 2023 I switched to a smart phone. A company called Verizon services that line. My first dozen callls or so were from insurance agents, real estate agents and a dude who wanted to sell me "wheat futures". james

In the 1980s I took advantage of a feature of my mail hosting service and added -names to my email address. -eweek was used for an email newsletter. eWeek folded and was then brought back to life. I am still getting mail solicitations to that address (the vendors assume me it's sold as part of a validated list of business decision makers).
Most recently - and troubling - was an attempt to reach me using that 1980s email for a product I started using in 2019...
