My last auction buy from the EU -- took over 6 months for the EU cultural commission to license export of an NGC Ancient graded Julius Caesar wreathed head Dictator in Perpituity.
I won't stray from HA again, 180 miles down the road from me!

UPS messed up the first shipment due to customs papers and they had to be reissued, another 6 month wait.

    Before bidding internationally, it’s worth weighing whether you can buy a similar coin domestically (not always an easy decision) and whether the potential hassle is worth it (delays, extra fees, extra phone calls/emails).

    Sometimes things go smoothly (I’ve received coins on my doorstep the morning after they’ve been sent) and other times, as you’ve experienced, things try your patience. Most times, it’s in between.

    I’ve found FedEx to be the best international shipper, despite their numerous shortcomings, and always specifically request it. Especially once you have the correct US Customs form on file with them (CBP Form 5106).

    As with anything, you have to weigh the need vs the potential effort.

    Don’t overlook international auctions based on one bad experience!
