National

I went Fri. & Sat. I sold 2-54 Bowmans both PSA 6s both #66 Williams & Piersall. I bought 2 cards a PSA 8 1959 Mantle & a PSA 9 1954 Bowman Minoso. I went with the intention of getting 700 SGC cards changed over to PSA a 54 & 58 master both complete.I had a PSA guy look at my 54 Banks SGC 8 & he said it would be a PSA 6 so I decided not to grade any cards. I can post a picture of the Banks if anyone is interested in seeing it. It's not for sale.

Yes please post the Banks photo- thank you.
psa is tough on the cards unfortunately not for everyone.
a PSA guy, as in one of the initial people you talk to at the front desk? Are we sure that guy is qualified to be tossing out grade predictions?
I wanna see the Minoso!

Thank you for your brief but insightful analysis of this major convention.
Farewell Ryno.

Golden hawk….
Nice haul from the National!
Hi can you please provide better photos for your 54 Banks. You mentioned a PSA rep said it would only receive a 6. I would like to see what a 6 looks like.
Centering side-to-side is off on ‘54 Banks RC…it probably would grade at least a half grade lower than an old SGC slab.
I relatively recently (7xxxxxxx) submitted SGC-92 ‘56 Mantle and ‘63 Rose RC in SGC slabs…and both received a PSA-8.
I sent the Rose RC to PSA last month for review in a PSA holder….but it did not bump.
I should send the Rose RC to Mike Baker…I think it would receive a silver or gold sticker. The centering is exceptional for the issue with no skewness….hard to find this card with those qualities. This card was purchased from REA in 2014 who told me the original owner pulled the card from a wax pack in 1963…he would look at the cards once …then put the cards back in the wax wrapper ….and chewed the gum …but never looked at the cards again.
Interesting that I sent a 1955 Jackie Robinson SGC-8 (in a new holder) with a PWCC-E into PSA about a couple weeks later...and it crossed straight to a PSA-8. I submitted the Jackie with the Rose RC for review...but it did not bump either. Grading notes on the Jackie stated that it was due to one corner...tough today to grade above a PSA-8.
Great Minoso!

Beautiful cards. I think the two corner touches, bottom right in particular , on the Rose make the grade acceptable.
I have heard sending SGC cards to PSA is very difficult. I had several people who are very prominent in the hobby tell me at the National to not send in my SGC 8 to PSA to cross including Mike Baker. He said it was an unbelievable card and very high end but they won’t cross it - a small bubble or something that not noticeable on his face somewhere would keep it from an 8. Side by side it looks exactly like my PSA 8 which he gave a silver label - see attached.
This is the above PSA 8 which I submitted at the National and it got a silver label.

The below PSA 4 got a gold label.
That's a great 4. Is that so low due to the edges?
The reality is most 8s in older PSA flips wouldn’t get an 8 today. If a guy had money to burn it would be fun to crack both those and submit them to PSA to see how they grade.
Kendall Cat - do you think your 56 psa 4 would bump to a 4.5 due to the MBA Gold? i submitted 5 cards to Baker, at the national, and got 3 silvers and 2 golds. I've always wondered if the gold diamonds would be a candidate for a bump.
Possibly. If a card goes from an 8 to an 8.5 it is a huge jump in price and value. From a 4 to a 4.5/5 not so much, but if I ever sold it (which won’t likely happen) I would price it as a 5-6 and only sell it if I got the amount I wanted for it. Same goes for my PSA 8 if I ever sold it. VCP has it for around $16-18k, and private sales have gone for $22-23k. If I ever sold mine I would asking that same price based on the centering, eye appeal, and overall condition of the card.

This reminds me of the guy several years ago that had boxes of 60's cards just like this - packs were open, but cards stored safely in the wrappers. I can't remember how long ago that was or where the post is, but this was the first thing I thought of. Wonder if it was the same person.
It has such a fresh look that the card itself lends credibility to the story REA told me.

The above thread is what I was thinking of. See mojorob's post. His display consisted of minty fresh cards. From what I remember, much of this consisted of opened packs with the cards stored back in the packs. There used to be another thread where there were many picutures of the contents of the boxes. It was something to see.
That is quite the display! Are those empty display boxes or unopened full boxes?
And here's the thread which sadly ran him off the forum for good.

Farewell Ryno.
Did Bbce sell any of the other boxes after the first day? He had some great stuff this year!
Yeah, it was too bad. I wish the pictures were still up - it was amazing to look at.
