Weight of a clad dime planchet plated with copper.

My first question is, can a clad dime planchet be plated in copper if it went thru the same process as the 97.5% zinc pennies? If so, how much might that copper plated clad dime weigh?

The copper-plated zinc one cent planchets were punched out, upset and copper plated at a private facility outside the Mint.

Clad Dime planchets are punched out of coils of clad metal strip inside the Mint. There is no plausible way that one could get from the Mint to the private one cent planchet manufacturing facility and get plated.

The weight of a clad dime planchet is 35 Grains (2.267 grams) plus or minus the weight tolerance of 1.5 Grains (0.97 Grams). The weight of any copper plating would depend upon how thick the plating it.

Assume that you have a slug of some kind.

The weight of the plating would add very little weight, chances are you have a coin that was plated after it left the mint or is painted.

We really need a clear photo of both sides of your dime to answer your question properly.
Without them we are just guessing.

It cannot. Check the edge of the coin. If it is copper plated, it was done after minting.

It would weigh the same as far as you are concerned. It does not add significant mass to the coin, less than the normal coin-to- coin variation.

Thank You, I think your response answers my question. I have a plated 2021 Lincoln cent that weighs 2.34 grams and I wondered if it could be made from a dime planchet. I am guessing now the zinc planchet might just be on the lighter side of it's tolerance.

Actually the coin is a 2021 Lincoln cent that weighs 2.34 grams. I'll add some pictures by Monday but the separate locations for minting dimes and pennies, confirmed by @CaptHenway, should have prevented the accidental copper plating of a dime planchet.

Thank you, my guess after @CaptHenway's response is that the coin is just a below average weight 2021 copper plated zinc penny. It weighs 2.34g.

I suspect that it has been years since either the Mint or their supplier cared what any individual cent planchet weighed.
