Lightspeed Grading

A 6 coin Modern Submission of mine to our host was Received on 7-14-2025. Today I checked the order and see that the 6 coins are being imaged and are being Encapsulated.

Talk about fast turn around (I bet each coin spent not more than 5 seconds being looked at by a grader) :)

At this rate I may have the coins back in my possession by the end of next week.

What was the service level, and or any additional services?

    @SanctionII

Was this the submission with the 1950 Proof set?

The 6 Modern coin submission is a Modern Value submission (with True View photos requested). This 6 coin submission was sent to our host along with a 16 coin Regular Economy submission that contains multiple proof coins from the three 1950 OGP proof sets I acquired at a local show in early June. That submission remains in Received.

Today my 6 coin Modern Value submission went from Encapsulation to QA.

9 days from Received to QA :o

Maybe the 6 coins will have grades posted tomorrow and will be shipped back to me tomorrow.

From my experience, they may have already been shipped. They may be in your mailbox tomorrow.

I also checked the other 16 coin Regular Economy submission today and see that while it is still in Received (as of 7-14-2025) the 16 coins in that submission and Being Imaged (that seems strange).

I have several submissions in, about 11 dropped off in baltimore, all the express ones are back, two regulars are in encap, and 1 regular world is back. I sent in a medal order for a customer last week, and he went economy , but its already enroute back as of today. some how it took the express train

The turnaround on Modern Value can be very quick. Unless they run into a snag. Had this fun experience this month:

I contacted PCGS for coin numbers for the new NASA/FL Innovation Dollars. They said if no numbers in the database, just submit them without. There weren't any.
I believe about 2 weeks later I get my grades, but instead of recognizing them as NASA/FL dollars, they used the coin numbers of the previous two other Innovation dollar releases. How/why that happened boggles the mind, but it did. Luckily I had a ship hold on it and was able to get them to fix this before they shipped them back, but it took a full 2-3 weeks for them to create the coin numbers and make the correction but this time they dropped the First Strike. Now I am waiting for CS to get this corrected. Apparently and based on the pop report, I am the only one to submit these coins for grading so far.

Frustrating because I should have had these coins back a month ago.

Grades on the 6 coin Modern Value submission have posted today (10 days after the coins were received).

The results (with my comments) are:

    1 1 57221483 6806 1970-S 50C PR67 USA (this is a toned half dollar)
    2 1 57221484 86001 1969-S 25C, CAM PR68CA USA (was hoping to receive a DCAM designation)
    3 1 57221485 85247 1970-S 10C, CAM PR68CA USA (was hoping to receive a DCAM designation)
    4 1 57221486 3296 1967 1C SMS, RD SP67RD USA (was hoping to receive a CAM designation)
    5 1 57221487 83430 1970-S 1C Large Date, CAM PR68CA USA (was hoping to receive a DCAM designation)
    6 1 57221488 3430 1970-S 1C Large Date, RD PR68RD USA (a coin with deep orange color and a CAM look).

I will post photos when they are available.

Definitely a case of Lightspeed grading. :)

Sounds like the lightning speed caused poor grades on everything. Are you cracking and resubmitting?

  • SanctionIISanctionII Posts: 12,569 ✭✭✭✭✭

    1madman.

No cracking and resubmitting of these widgets. I am ok with the numerical grades for the coins (since when is a 67 and a 68 on coins such as these considered to be POOR?).

I think the toned 1970 S cent would warrant a Cameo designation if the coin were untoned. The presence of toning on such a coin makes it very difficult to obtain a Cameo designation. The 1967 SMS cent has frosted devices, but the absence of deeply mirrored fields on the coin likely precluded a Cameo designation. The dime and the quarter rightfully received a Cameo designation, but both lack the attributes needed for a DCAM designation. The half dollar I think rightfully graded a PF67 and the reason for grading it was simply due to the toning (which is not easily found on the 1968-1970 40% silver proof halves).
