CRHing...finding silver war nickels are far more rare than buffalos now?!

I'm not exaggerating one bit when I say that it's been honestly almost 3 years since I've found a war nickel in a box of Loomis rolls.
Went through a box of nickels last night and found a war nickel!!! lol
It was a pretty fun box that even had a decent buffalo and a nice handful of older nickels.
I seem to find a handful of buffalos per year and about one or two silver quarters and dimes and quite a few 40% and even 90% halves. Those who know me know that I go through plenty of boxes of all denominations (here in the Denver area, mostly Loomis rolls).
But I never would've guessed that one of the true rarities for me is now the silver war nickels.
Just curious if any of my other CRH hunting friends are also experiencing this?

East Coast area:
In my small sample of roughly 12 boxes this year, I'm averaging 1 war and 1 buffalo per box.
Good luck to you.
Haven't found a War nickel since November 2021. I am from the CA area.

I regularly search about 2 boxes a month of varying denominations. Usually quarters, pennies, or nickels.

It's been at least 3 years since I've found a war nickel. Still finding buffalos and recently found a V nickel. Still looking for my first Henning and '75 High D.

Been a while since I tried any CRH-ing. I always found many more War nickels than Buffaloes in the past. Never found a V-nickel.
I think you find more buffalos new because all war nickels have quite a bit of extra value. Some people do not bother saving dateless buffalos.
It's been decades since I've done the CRH thing, but I've been tossing Lincoln Wheat Cents and dateless Buffalo Nickels into Coinstar machines for years now...

Yesterday I read this thread. Surprisingly, today I received a War Nickel in change at the deli this afternoon. Then at the supermarket I spotted some abandoned coins in the Coinstar. One of the dimes is 1964.

I don’t recall the last time I received a War Nickel in change, and then find a silver dime in a Coinstar.
What a day.
War nickels were being massively melted as early as 1963, and continuing up to the present. Probably a lot fewer than 10% survive today. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually are scarcer today than buffalo nickels.

I need to move to your area dude. I've never found silver in coinstar after 12 years of searching.
