I received a PM earlier today from this account asking if I was interesting any of the recently listed coins and if I would be willing to pay via Bitcoin.
Wish you would have posted that. Sadly, I'm fighting now to recover some funds.
I had just completed a deal with him two weeks ago. This deal seemed on the up and up and asked him for verification of who I was talking to, and I asked for a piece of mail with his physical address. It all matched up with his previous details. Did the deal. Deal is no good.
I am starting to not want to continue on this platform due to these items happening. Something is not right here.

I am sorry, I didn't want to possibly smear an innocent member before I was certain. I too recently completed a deal with the real PROMETHIUS88 so I was hesitant to publicly raise a flag but once I saw all the gold they were offering was well under spot and the request to pay via crypto I knew something had to be off. I posted to the MFeld thread reminding people to be cautious and flagged the for sale post to the Mods. Sorry, I should have done more.
yeah...I hear you. there was no request for crypto. and i was replying to him in his original emails to me. ugh. I can't believe they even ginned up a fake bill from Verizon with correct address and (potentially) phone number. Even offered to facetime me.
I wonder if that is how it works. Get your details via facetime or email address...??
Yes his PM to me asked about paying in Crypto:

My wife and I recently retired and purchased some land, so I’ve decided to sell some of my investment gold and silver pieces. I noticed you’re into cryptocurrency—my son recently recommended Bitcoin to me, and I’ve started investing in it as well.
If you’re interested in any of the items from my recent post, I’d be happy to accept Bitcoin or other currencies as payment. Let me know if you’d like more details!
If you are not dealing with Timothy Hadley you are not dealing with PROMETHIUS88.

Sadly, he even had a Verizon bill in that name with the correct address.
We know this but whoever hacked the account provided photo documents of the said named T.H.
That is amazing detail.
What is anyone to do?
I'd guess either have the seller offer to ship first or talk on the phone.

Don't buy anything from the BST.

Don’t say that my deals are not to good to be true.
Maybe you've been hacked? Just kidding.

These guys can hack all the accounts they want nothing happens if no one falls for the too good to be true.
Not YET! Hopefully they don't shut it down but I believe and hope our host is able to do something. THKS!
PROMETHIUS88 has confirmed to me that his account is hacked and he is locked out.

Should I be telling you guys this ? Whenever I do a deal with a new member ( new member to me doing a deal, they might have been here a long time) I goggle earth their address. I google search name and address you might be surprised all you can find. Maybe I’m wrong but can someone hack here and hack everywhere on the internet including google earth to cover their tracks ?
What was being offered and how good of a deal was it?
I knew it would happen.
With all due respect to the duped it’s always way to good.
That's all good but I suspect you would be very surprised to know what the hack knew about PROMETHIUS88. The street goes both ways and this thug/thugs certainly did their homework.
If you are unable to access your own account and believe that you've been hacked, immediately contact several members with whom you've done business and have them post an ALERT.
I knew it would happen.
You are correct. He knew a lot about Promethius88. The items that I was going to buy from him was not, "too good to be true". I paid him through paypal FF. I questioned him for references and he said he mainly sell sports cards and has hundreds of deals. If you look at his profile he had a lot of transactions. Sometimes it is not that the buyer`s too easily fooled. He was good at what he did and it sucks! EDITED TO ADD: He also told me him and his wife were trying to save money to buy land.
Maybe they should just shut down the BST. I for one could live without it. It’s been fun but not so much anymore.
I certainly hope it doesn't get shut down. I am very thankful for what I have been able to purchase here. Hopefully our host can figure out how to make our accounts more secure.

I see red flags in your statement.
A previous scammer used that same story about buying land. Maybe it’s him again.
I did not see that.
Maybe it's just time to add a few more proof points to any BST post? It's fairly common on FB groups for people to add proof of date / time photos alongside a given coin for sale, if not also buyers asking for public references of sellers (and in some cases, vice versa) before sealing the deal. Of course, it's still buyer beware there, and some people have still been fooled, but these efforts have been largely successful in building trust when there's a coin to be bought or sold.
How about using PayPal (no FF) and splitting the fee b/w buyer and seller?

I've done business with dozens of members here, but I would not have anyone's contact info outside of this platform.
I have written this up in the US Forum.
You mean have our well established, honest, trustworthy members actually use regular PayPal for a transaction involving actual goods?
Hahahaha. That’s laughable.

implementation of 2-factor authentication might be a starting point
Have our hosts commented on the hack?
This should concern PCGS in a big way. Not only does it affect BST, but there are any number of collectors here who have valuable collections and could become targets in similar ways to what has already happened - i.e. a private message solicitation from a well-known member whose account had been hacked.
I knew it would happen.
@SurfinxHI, I’m sorry for you and anyone else who got taken.
Would you mind posting some details regarding the coins and prices, so forum members can get an idea regarding how enticing the deals were?

@PCGS_Moderator, can someone from PCGS post and offer some information on this disturbing trend, please?

@MFeld unlike BAJJERFANs prices, it wasn’t exactly a fire sale. Mostly raw world gold pieces. He had a couple of ICG graded quarter eagles that seemed priced low in the mid $400 range.
This is what the hacker PMd me. I can only guess but this site has little in forcing people to have secure passwords with upper and lower case, plus symbols. A timeout after three attempts to sign on is another need to stop them.
Thank you. If you’re able to say, approximately how far below a realistic fair market value that the coins would be expected to trade at, were they priced?

They had 2 - $2.5 Indians listed at $330 each in IGC holders, 1/10 Krugerrand $300, 1/4 Krugerrand $800, 1ozt PAMP bar $3200 etc. There were also a couple of 10g gold bars, some additional 1/4 and 1/10 gold all offered under spot. 20 or so assorted gutter rounds at 37.50.
Thanks very much.

Melt on those quarter eagles is currently $405 each so the $330 listed was one flag to me anyway. Should mention they were both graded at IGC/AU58.
Yes, that would be a major red flag to me - even if XF condition, they should bring over melt value, wholesale.

again, we can say what we want and sharp shoot all day long, but the gold quarter ounces were priced fairly, and were not certified. Thus, it was a risk either way. I appreciate you all. I hope you change your personal details with the system, as I do not think this is an isolated 2x incident. I think more have been compromised and you just don't know it yet. And they are getting way, way smarter.
And, yes, there were flags, which is why I asked for additional proof.....
I (and I’m sure many others) appreciate your postings and warnings. And I agree that other accounts have probably been compromised even if the victims don’t know it yet.

I hate to say this, but AGAIN, change your passwords. Looks like another one is hacked.
