Has anyone ever sent raw coin to gc to get graded and auctioned off? If so we're you happy with the process and outcome? How long did it take to get graded and put up for auction

They make it very easy for you. Send them the coins and they submit on your behalf without you having to be a member of PCGS or NGC and the postage is on them. Once the coin is graded they list it. The only downside I can think of is if you don’t agree with the assigned grade. I don’t know if they will resubmit it for you or return the coin back to you.

No problems whatsoever doing this thru GC.

I sent them a raw Canada variety that NGC did not recognize but PCGS did. It straight graded and did well at auction.

I've sent many, many raw coins and had both pcgs or anacs grade and attribute them. Yes it takes a while and don't bother being concerned in 1st 2 months. I probably will be sending another batch this summer. Great service. I've also had them use John @messydesk to attribute a coin or so.

When I talked with them at Winter FUN, they also said they will submit coins to CAC if you request it, and will screen them for you, if you want.

It's a choice on their consignment sheet.

If I recall correctly, you are fairly new to the hobby-industry and have very little collecting experience. As such, you might not really have material that is either a good fit for certification or a good fit for the GC venue. Contact them directly and share with them what you have in mind and they will tell you if they can realistically help or not. Good luck.

or you can post clear pics front and back here and give you advice

I've actually gone through quite a few decent pieces so far. I already sent them and spoke to Ben over the phone. He thinks my coin im sending in is a good fit for them

I kniw i don't have the years but so far I've put quite a bit of time in and i like to think I learn quickly. Plus its not hard to figure out which pieces are rare and worth more. Once again though I do appreciate all the comments and willingness to help

I sold some raw Lincoln varieties awhile back and was both surprised and very pleased with the results. They were attributed and graded by ANACS. GC did everything and I got a nice check. Auctions get your coins seen by more people.

Why don't you just pick up the phone and call them?

What do the charge for providing the service of getting the coins graded?

Bare with me, but what would happen if after the coin is graded you have a change of heart and would rather own it than sell. Is there a method in play that would allow you to retrieve your coin and I guess pay for whatever service GC rendered?

I have done this once. I handed GC a raw 1925 Buffalo Nickel at the 2024 winter FUN show. They sent to PCGS and the coin was auctioned. I received my check sometime in April if I remember correctly. I did this to see how the process went. It was smooth with the exception that there were literally no updates while they had the coin. I would not hesitate to use this service again.

I had a rather unusual experience with them last year. I have sent coins off to be auctioned by them for several years and have been happy with the results. Last year I noticed they had sold quite a few complete sets of Ikes and Kennedys and some other partial sets. I sent them an email and asked if it was OK to send those items in, to be sold as sets and not graded. After 2 months I didn't hear back so I emailed the same question again. I waited another 2 months with no response. I called and the nice lady said "we will auction anything, just send it in".

So, I boxed it all up, about 30 coins to be graded and several complete sets, and they had also said, on their site, "send in your US mint items and we will get them graded and up for auction, so I included quite a few coins like the Buffalo Commemorative dollar still sealed in the packing. I heard nothing for 3 months. Then got a terse note that they were going to auction some of that and were returning the rest and not to send in those kinds of items without asking first. I asked a total of 3 times. Twice with no response and the last phone call saying it was fine to send them in. I got a box back with a lot of coins, not overly securely packaged. Quite a while after my coins had been sold, I got the bill for grading, many of them had been auctioned off several months ago along with a note that the cost of grading would be taken from my auction sales. I was not surprised by that, but was surprised with how long it took for the grading bill to come in.

I realize I'm not a super large customer and I wasn't auctioning off major coins, but I did expect the common courtesy of a return email, and expected them to stand behind what the rep said on the phone. I had since sold off the bulk of my collections, and the rest have been gifted to the grandkids. I have some nice coins left, but I am to just go to my local B&M and sell them so I can get paid before I leave the shop.

I think, over all GC does an amazing job and they move some outstanding coins. I don't think they are the best venue for the average, run of the mill, collector. Your mileage may vary.

Gc is very easy to work with overall. They can drop off to pcgs vs. Dealing with the mail service which is a plus.
I've had a few issues but Gc has excellent communication and will do their best to fix mistakes that occur.
Do your own homework on if you want to list your coin at $1 or some other set price.
How long it takes depends on a multitude of factors but mainly the grading service timeframe.

Great Collections has been really good to me. I really like the submission form. It's easy to read and understand. When I first got started with them, I had a few questions and they were fast at taking my call or answering my emails. They saved me a lot of time and postage by taking my coins over to PCGS. If I had sent the coins to PCGS directly, I would have paid postage three ways. As a normal, Express grading is fast and Economy is much slower.

I also like that they will review my coins after grading and decide what is worthy of going to CAC. That saved me even more on postage. They did great at picking out the winners.

One other thing I thought was pretty cool. I received a thank you call from Ian a while back. That was nice of him to take the time. I'm looking forward to seeing the GC folks at the ANA in Oklahoma City.

This is probably wrong, but one thought is contact GC once the coin is graded, and have them start the auction listing at an obscenely high amount, let it run the course, and contact them after the auction ends with no bid to get it shipped back to you.

You’ll pay all the fees, but it will allow you to get the coin back.

They charge less than if you were to submit the coins yourself.
