Added a nice CC OGH to my stable

I just mentioned in another thread, last week, that I haven’t purchased anything in nine months. But been waiting to buy an 1884 Carson City in near gem OGH.

I bought one a little over a year ago and I didn’t like it, because it had a scratch on the cheek and neck..so I sold it and made a buck or two.

Saw another one, but it had a carbon spot.

One sold last week and I passed on that, too, because it looked like it had an S shaped abrasion or scratch that bothered me. It also looked to have some haze.

I paid a real premium for this one and won it for my max, which is most unusual. I beat the under bidder by less than two dollars! lol. Just another example of some good old-fashioned luck! 🍀

I Just wanted to share her and I don’t think she’s an upgrade. I Just think she’s a nice, wholesome, properly and solidly graded 64 in a nice vintage slab. I think she’s an A coin, but I am not gonna send her in.

This keeps me in the game without having to spend a small fortune. Although, these have pretty much doubled in value since pre-Covid days. Still VERY affordable and fun and OGH’s are getting tougher and tougher to find. What’s not to like about a big, fat, heavy and historic, uncirculated, Morgan silver dollar? ;)

Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome.

Nice addition! A little patience can pay off like it did for you here.

Very nice coin! The fields are really abrasion free!

Great catch, and worth fighting for!

That's nicer than some that I've seen in GSA holders with a 65 strap from NGC on it.

Love the OGH and your new acquisition. Nice clean surfaces for a 64. Correctly graded too.

    What a solid example for a 64!

    Might be worth a resubmission.

Faces up nicer but I agree with 64 due to focal area marks. Clean cheek and fields coupled to the older holder make it have gem like pop.

Might 64+ in a modern holder as it is a classic 65 except for her black eye. I grade + as more of a -. It would be the over grade “but” for a technical attribute but the look is positive despite. Example a 64+ is really a 65-. That coin fits that to a T.

What do you tell a Morgan with a black eye? Nothing…. She was already told

Possibly, but then I’d lose that holder, which would be a deal breaker for me. A nice 64 OGH is more appealing to me than a run of the mill 65.

    Gold CAC?

Way to go! You could add this to the OGH thread.

Hi, I'm new, don't know much and am curious --- is "OGH" original green holder?

Is that important? I have a Roanoke Half Dollar in one of those... should I get excited?

OGH means old green holder, it was the early generation PCGS holders before they changed their design. Nice CC dollar by the way!

That's a pretty one. A lot of CC Morgans seemingly getting a grade bump over other mint marks for some reason. That one looks like a keeper.

Yes it must have been one bumpy ride down the hill all those years ago. Excellent CC coin. congrats. James

If this coin were in a 65 holder, you’d consider it run of the mill?

Of course not. I’ve seen a lot of 65s that aren’t any better. You’re missing my point. I just think the slab makes it extra special. But then again, I have an affinity for vintage slabs, whereas others might not care for them. 😉

Not really excited but it does add liquidity and rarely a little value. I a sea of new/blue holders an older one sticks out and makes people notice. Getting people to notice your inventory is half the battle in sales. There are old wives tales about stricter standers and what not but like everything else there is a grain of truth but many examples to the contrary
