Ok, I can see maybe screwing up and being one grade apart but 2 grades apart when the lower graded Morgan seems to be in better condition than higher graded Morgan..........I do realize it's ANACS but still................. B)

I am not well versed in Morgans, but different dates from different mints may not always be the best to compare grades.

I wish the photos were clear and unaltered then perhaps I could LOL with you.

Dont know enough about Morgans to really be able to explain this, but my first thoughts were the denticles are significantly better on the VG10 than the G6. As stated above, could be the result of different mints.

Yes I agree, just trying to see if better struck denticles id a 2 point upward swing when everything else is worse.

Coins do not look cleaned. "O" mint generally offers less central detail due to strike. They could have both gone VG-08, Nothing to get yer dander up. J.P.

Is this the first time you’ve compared two coins and the one you thought was inferior graded higher?
Whatever your answer, this isn’t nearly as unusual as your post indicates you must think.

Comparing just the GC pics tells a better story. A lot more meat on the 10 than the 6. Wing tips. The stalks around the I of Pluribus. Reverse wreath details, etc. the darker toning on the 10 makes the high points appear more worn, when it is really color contrast. The reverse denticles are a huge difference also. The only detail better on the 6 is the ear.

S mint coins are normally better strucked than O mint coins

Those photos are severely altered--look at how smoothed the cheeks are, and the dates are messed up. It's a horrendous photoshop job.

First, I am amazed that those are straight graded. Second, I think it was just a matter of what mood the grader was in at that time.

Did you look at the GC photos that were posted later? Based on them, you should be amazed if the coins hadn’t been straight graded.

Looks like the original 1894-O was fudged compared the the GC shot, SOMEONE SMEARED THE EAR AREA. Who would ever want to put ANACS in a bad light? By the way, I probably graded both of these

  • jmlanzafjmlanzaf Posts: 36,219 ✭✭✭✭✭

If you consider one a VG08+ and the other a VG08-, they aren't as different a it seems. It's not a 2 level difference? It's a half level difference.

Well there's editing to make the photo clearer, or better represent in hand look, but then there's manipulation. This is worse then celebrities losing a foot or the wall behind them being curved. Looks at the left side of the slab. Did you think you could fool folks.

Never mind the photos, having the coins in hand you couldn't tell the 94-O was superior, and you made a negative wisecrack at ANACs grading which was unwarranted. Of course we're going to correct you. And why manipulate any photo of y our coins. I'm calling BS.

Once again - I did not realize I posted an edited picture - all I did was copy and pasted the pic from the other forum I posted it on (and on that forum nobody accused me of doing a damn thing nor did they act so juvenile) - there was no intentional effort to cause this uproar. Jesus Christ people - lighten up. Pretend I just got arrested for burning down a building while peacefully protesting and pay my bail!

    Looks pretty similar...

    I would prefer your coin as a VG08, but it's a borderline 10. Probably wouldn't CAC at 10 FWIW.

It is NOT, however, lower grade than the 6 you posted due to the rims alone. That was your original observation.

No, I'm saying that the degree of wear is similar... as you no doubt knew. And as several other posters have already opined. And we were all met with the same attitude.

As I said, I prefer it as an 8. But it is better than the 6.
