Trophy Coins

For those of you who didn’t know, Trophy Coins is shuttering due to apparent lack of interest, or at least the type of interest that pays subscription fees. Trophy Coins was Ron Guth’s brain child, and the premise was (at least as I understood it) to offer census data, provenance information, photos, and auction histories on the best coins out there. While I think there are a lot of us who value this kind of information, it would seem there aren’t enough of us who would be willing to pay for it.
For what it’s worth, he will continue to maintain the database and offer provenance research for a fee.
I for one am sad to see another good and noble idea bite the dust. Sorry, Ron. All the best.

Or, perhaps there weren't enough of us that even knew about it? This is the first time I've ever heard of this website, so I wouldn't rule out that the primary obstacle was a lack of marketing, rather than a lack of inte rest. I would gladly pay a fee if someone was able to track down provenance information and auction history of any of the coins I own, though I'm not sure that a subscription based approach would be the best model. I love doing provenance research, but my time is spread thin as it is and there's simply not enough hours in the day. I would certainly be interested in a conversation about it, even to explore the likelihood of being able to trace back some of my favorites.

Ron will still do provenance research for a fee on a coin by coin basis.
Not sure about the price.

Bummer - I signed up to use it but didnt get a chance to really sue it as I was busy doing other things. Seemed like Ron pulled the plug too quickly IMHO.
Why did you want to sue it?
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Fixed it for you. Cool idea, though.

I find it childish to misconstrue someone's spelling error. There are far better and more educational things to discuss than grammar and spelling.
i hadn't heard of it, plus think the name could be better. apple doesn't sell apples, but they started out as apple computer. a shame provenance is a cumbersome word.
I believe what @messydesk was saying it that it wasn’t for lack of interest (as I stated) but for lack of appropriate marketing, which makes sense as long as there really is a big enough customer base out there.
